Terriers in talks with Copenhagen over Zanka

SIMON JONES: Huddersfield are in advanced talks to sign FC Copenhagen's Danish defender Mathias 'Zanka' Jorgensen.

The newly-promoted club have been busy over the last few weeks building a competitive squad with 27-year-old Jorgensen seen as a leader with Champions League experience who can distribute the ball from defence and cause a threat at set-pieces.

Leeds weighing-up Borthwick-Jackson move

SIMON JONES: Leeds are considering a move for Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

The Elland Road club have seen left-back Charlie Taylor depart for Burnley and have identified 20-year-old Borthwick-Jackson as a candidate to replace him.

The England U20 international, United's U21 player of the year in 2016, had a difficult season on loan at Wolves which left Jose Mourinho unhappy as he hoped the talented youngster would have been used to greater effect and benefit from more competitive football.

United brought Borthwick-Jackson back to help them in the Premier League International Cup and to underline how highly thought of he was but he went on to make just seven appearances for Wolves.

Leeds though want to sign him on a permanent basis and Borthwick-Jackson may be open to a fresh start.

Leeds are also in talks with 28-year-old former Newcastle United midfielder Vurnon Anita who is a free agent and saw a move to Galatasaray collapse this week.

RB Leipzig hold Keita talks

SIMON JONES: Liverpool target Naby Keita is to hold further talks with his club RB Leipzig this week after they re-iterated their commitment to keep him this summer.

The Guinea international midfielder is understood to be keen on a move to Anfield now rather than wait until next summer when his release clause comes into play.

Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick said: 'We will definitely not be letting any key players go. There's nothing that will make us budge.'

Liverpool want a defensive midfielder, centre-back and left-back with Virgil van Dijk and Hull's Andrew Robertson among the options.

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains an option for Liverpool is not a priority.

Stoke want Delph but City will only consider permanent deal

SIMON JONES: Stoke have revived their bid to sign Fabian Delph from Manchester City.

Manager Mark Hughes made enquiries in May with Stoke asking to take Delph on loan but City only wish to sell the 27-year-old and quoted £12m for their former England international. West Brom and Newcastle have also shown interest but have reservations over the midfielder's long-term fitness.

Stoke are looking to sell Glenn Whelan to Aston Villa and are awaiting offers for Gianelli Imbula though so far have rejected mainly loans.

Plenty of goings on behind the scenes at Chelsea

SIMON JONES: Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah remains an option for Watford though a deal has yet to be struck.

The 22-year-old has one year left on contract at around £40,000 a week and could yet opt to see out his deal. He had a scan on a groin injury today and is due to hold talks with Chelsea next week over his future.

Chalobah is keen for more regular game time though Antonio Conte is known to want to add Tiemoue Bakayoko and one other midfielder.

Conte is known to be eager to add around five players to his squad and will be perplexed at what has unfolded with Manchester United and Romelu Lukaku on Thursday.

Nemanja Matic is wary that his move to United could be in jeopardy as a result, or at least delayed.

Conte wants players who can compete immediately.

Lewis Baker is primed for a Premier League loan with Bournemouth keen while Brighton are also interested in Baker, Izzy Brown and Ruben Loftus-Cheek - as are Newcastle United.

Diego Costa has already said his goodbyes to some teammates though his move to Atletico Madrid is not straightforward.

DONE DEAL: Wolves sign Douglas

Scottish defender Barry Douglas has signed a two-year deal at Molineux and Wolves paying Turkish side Konyaspor £1million for his services.

Toffees to go back in for Gylfi

SIMON JONES: Swansea are braced for a revised £32million bid from Everton for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Welsh club, who have completed the £11m signing of 28-year-old midfielder Roque Mesa from Las Palmas, are understood to have already rejected around £27m from Everton for Sigurdsson.

The Iceland international remains Everton's primary target despite ongoing negotiations for Wayne Rooney and Olivier Giroud.

Swansea insist Sigurdsson is not for sale despite further interest from Leicester City but the 27-year-old is understood to be keen on joiningup with Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.

Foxes continue to pursue £25m Iheanacho

SIMON JONES: Leicester are continuing to push for Kelechi Iheanacho from Manchester City for £25m though any agreement could yet take a few weeks.

Leicester have also shown interest in Watford's Troy Deeney though the Vicarage Road club maintain they have yet to receive an official bid for the 29-year-old. Deeney, previously an option for West Brom also, would cost £30million as a contract clause stipulates the club must clear £25m from any transfer after a sell-on is paid to his previous club Walsall.

City want a buy-back clause inserted for the 20-year-old Iheanacho though he is also waiting to appoint new agents.

Leicester are willing to offload Islam Slimani and expect offers for Riyad Mahrez.

Meanwhile, former City left-back Gael Clichy is expected to be unveiled at Turkish club Basaksehir on Friday after undergoing a medical in Istanbul.

Galaxy check on Zlatan fitness

SIMON JONES: LA Galaxy have made fresh enquiries regarding the fitness of Zlatan Ibrahimovic after a move for Andre Pierre Gignac collapsed.

Ibrahimovic has been continuing his rehabilitation from knee surgery at Manchester United's Carrington training base where he is expected to stay until July 15.

The popular Swede has been working alongside Ashley Young and Sam Johnstone in recent days who both returned earlier for pre-season work.

The 35-year-old Ibrahimovic was a big influence on many of United's young players and though disappointed with the way his time there has ended he is understood to be weighing up a number of offers from Europe and the MLS.

Tigres forward Gignac had spoken to Galaxy but they failed to agree terms.

Guangzhou Evergrande reject Barca Paulinho bid

The Chinese Super League side have taken the unusual measure of releasing a statement to announce a rejected bid for the former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho.

'Paulinho, having already renewed his contract in January 2017, is an important player for our club's long-term project,' Guangzhou said in a statement on Thursday.

'Therefore, our club have given a formal response to Barcelona that we reject their bid for Paulinho.

'We would like to express our gratitude to Barcelona who have reserved a high degree of admiration for our club as well as our player.'

The 28-year-old signed a new contract in January, tying him to Guangzhou until 2020.

Sirigu: 'Verratti is a prisoner at PSG'

Salvatore Sirigu has made some explosive comments regarding former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Marco Verratti. Speaking to L'Equipe, Sirigu said Verratti, a known target for Barcelona, is a little like a prisoner in Paris.

Here's the full quote: 'You could say that Verratti is a little like a prisoner at PSG. A player gives his best when he is motivated. If Marco wants to leave the club because he's not motivated or has a reason to go, the club should consider his petition. He is an extraordinary player, I hope he makes the right decision, one which makes him feel better as a footballer.'

ALEX MARTIN: Manchester United have agreed to waive a transfer fee for Wayne Rooney, allowing their captain to seal an emotional return to Everton on a free transfer.

The Toffees were willing to pay a fee in the region of £10million for the 31-year-old and have offered him wages of £150,000 a week, which represents a significant cut from his earnings at Old Trafford.

United's decision to allow Rooney to leave for nothing is not connected to the £75m deal agreed for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who looks set to move in the opposite direction, but will further ease negotiations between the two clubs. MORE

DONE DEAL: Amid all the Lukaku excitement...

Charlie Taylor has joined Burnley from Leeds on a four-year deal.

After signing, he said:

'It's my first move permanently away from Leeds, so it's something different for me but something I can't wait to crack on with.

'I've been there since I was nine and I knew it was the right time really. There were so many things that attracted me to Burnley; it ticks every box and it was a no-brainer really.

'That's the huge attraction of the Premier League, just everything about it! Week in, week out you are playing teams like Chelsea and Manchester United, so I just can't wait to get started.'

10:15

MATT LAWTON: Manchester United have agreed a £75million fee for Romelu Lukaku and expect to wrap up a deal in time for the Everton striker to join them on their US tour.

United manager Jose Mourinho has moved quickly to hijack Chelsea's pursuit of Lukaku and has now aborted his pursuit of Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata.

Lukaku's move is not linked to that of Wayne Rooney, but United will waive a transfer fee as their captain nears a return to Everton in a separate deal.

SIMON JONES AND AMITAI WINEHOUSE: West Ham are the favourites to sign Burnley striker Andre Gray.

Rooney set to move in the other direction

Whilst a deal is being worked on for Lukaku, the two clubs are in discussions over what would be an emotional return to Goodison for Rooney...

CHRIS WHEELER AND JACK GAUGHAN: Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford held talks with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright on Wednesday afternoon as the Manchester United striker's return to Goodison Park edged closer.

The two men spoke at Kenwright's London offices and further talks are planned in the coming days with Everton increasingly hopeful of bringing Rooney back to Merseyside 13 years after he left for Old Trafford in a £27million transfer.

Everton have stepped up their interest in the last few days and there is a willingness on behalf of both clubs and the Rooney camp to strike a deal.

However, no agreement has been reached yet and it's understood that all three sides will have to compromise before that happens.

A number of options are being discussed including United paying up the remaining two years of Rooney's contract and allowing him to leave on a free transfer, and a season-long loan which would see the two clubs share his £230,000-a-week wages.

Everton have always been Rooney's preference ahead of a move to China or America, and he confirmed after United's win in the Europa League final in May that they were the only club he would play for after leaving Old Trafford.

But until now the finances have proved a significant stumbling block with Everton only prepared to pay a fee of £10m and wages of £150,000-a-week for a 31-year-old player whose stock has fallen significantly in the last 12 months. READ MORE

MATT LAWTON: Manchester United are ready to hijack Romelu Lukaku's £100million move to Chelsea.

In a sensational development, Sportsmail understands Jose Mourinho is closing in on the biggest move of the summer and a world-record deal, eclipsing Paul Pogba's £89m return to Old Trafford last year.

Everton striker Lukaku, who scored 26 goals last season, was expected to go back to Stamford Bridge but relations between the two clubs have soured since Chelsea's failed move to sign John Stones in 2015. READ MORE
