Real Salt Lake 1-2 Manchester United

United maintain their 100 per cent winning record after two games of their US tour. Not as smooth as the performance against LA Galaxy but this was a good showing of their grit. Valencia being sent off and the altitude played different parts. The first half was by far United's best showing despite Luis Silva scoring the opener after slack United defending. Bit of concern for Darmian after taking a knock in the air late on by Schuler. Though he gets back on the pitch before the referee blows his final whistle.

04:49

85min: United in no mood to force anything here as Martial misses the target. They'll be satisfied with this scoreline given Valencia's sending off and the altitude this game has been played at. Real Salt Lake still finding the runs in between. Haber the latest to have some joy there as he is wrongly judged offside in the United penalty area.

04:44

80min: Rashford very close to extending United's lead. He cut in from the left but was unable to put his shot beyond Eduardo Fernandez. The youngster doesn't look too disappointed but his appetite for goals is certainly growing after his display against LA Galaxy, which reaped two goals.

04:39

74min: United being put under pressure now. Real Salt Lake are pushing further forward but United are just about handling what's coming their way. Still no real idea as to why Valencia was sent off. Some suggestion that referee Alan Chapman said to Mourinho 'sub him off or I'll send him off'. Certainly made up his mind if that is to be believed.

04:29

68min: Valencia clatters into Saucedo. The Real Salt Lake player has been in the wars. Referee Alan Chapman has a word with Valencia and also speaks to Mourinho. Chapman then takes the rather bizarre step of sending off Valencia. A yellow, definitely, but not a red. United down to 10 men.

04:26

63min: Real Salt Lake beginning to find their way in this second half. Saucedo is proving rather troublesome down the left side and can put in a dangerous cross. United aren't taking many risks here. Rashford hasn't really had a sniff. Valencia isn't roaming down the right as much as he usually would. Mourinho barking instructions at his players.

04:22

60min: Mata coming off with a minor issue for Demetri Mitchell, who will occupy the position on United's right side of midfield.

04:16

54min: Rashford bursts down the right flank but goalkeeper Fernandez manages to come out and clear. Anthony Martial is also getting forward well during the early stages of this one. Andreas Pereira has just received a talking to after clattering Saucedo.

Back underway for the second half...

United make wholesale changes. First half starting XI replaced. Rashford one of those who gets the nod for the second half. Sergio Romero goes in goal.

Real Salt Lake 1-2 Manchester United

Early scare when Luis Silva put the hosts ahead but the clinical pairing of Mkhitaryan and Lukaku have combined quite devastatingly to put United in front.

03:47
First goal for United, as watched by Chris Wheeler at the Rio Tinto Stadium

He notes: 'It wasn’t a collector’s item from Romelu Lukaku but he won’t mind. The chance looked as though it might have gone when he took a poor first touch to control Mkhitaryan’s excellent throughball, but the £75m man recovered to score his first goal for United.'

03:46
GOAL: Lukaku 38min (Real Salt Lake 1-2 Manchester United)

Lovely stuff from Lukaku. Bags of composure. He round two defenders before doing the same to goalkeeper Rimando and shooting into an empty net. That's why United have splashed out for him. Once he's fully match fit he will be very dangerous with Mkhitaryan not far behind in support.

03:38

30min: Real Salt Lake replace their entire team. They will do it again a bit later. They have a big game on Wednesday against Portland Timbers. Still, odd to see an entire team come off.

03:35
GOAL: Mkhitaryan 29min (Real Salt Lake 1-1 Manchester United)

So just six minutes later and United have an equaliser. Henrikh Mkhitaryan got the goal and he took it so brilliantly. Lingard had done excellently in the build-up before it was played to Mkhitaryan who took a step to his left before firing past Rimando from 25 yards.

03:33
It had been coming, writes Chris Wheeler

He notes: 'That goal has been coming from Real Salt Lake. The home side have troubled United with their pace and energy in the opening 25 minutes. Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Daley Blind should all have done better there. After the flying start in LA, United are struggling to get going here.'

03:30
GOAL: Silva 23min (Real Salt Lake 1-0 Manchester United

Not what United fans would have been expecting but it has happened. Real Salt Lake take the lead. Jones got a slight shove in the back as Silva ran through but it wasn't a foul. Silva then got the ball out of his feet as he got into the United penalty area before sliding the ball past Pereira.

03:26

17min: Great chance for United but Lukaku couldn't meet the ball to convert a chance from 10 yards out. Super ball in by Fosu-Mensah from the right but a rather lethargic looking Lukaku gets nowhere near the pass. So obviously short of fitness.

03:23

15min: Good save by Pereira to deny Real Salt Lake. United just haven't been able to stop Silva who has been tricky to deal with either running at the opposition or with his back to them. Mourinho comes out of his dugout and sends out fresh instructions.

03:17

11min: Silva down the right tries to find his team-mates in the middle but Fosu-Mensah demonstrates superb athleticism to get back into his penalty area and clear the ball for Manchester United. End-to-end stuff this so far.

03:13

6min: Scott McTominay looking particularly lively in the early stages against Real Salt Lake. He's just watched an effort of his go wide while Lukaku is also appearing much sharper than he did against LA Galaxy.

03:10
Brass band behind Joel Pereira's goal...

3min: Chris Wheeler writes: 'After a rather passionless rendition of the Real Salt Lake anthem by the home fans, the game has started and a brass band has struck up behind Joel Pereira’s goal. Looks like they’re going to be playing for the duration which is unfortunate. United have lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Michael Carrick sitting.'

Jose Mourinho is out before his players... seconds away from kick-off

Chris Wheeler at Rio Tinto Stadium writes: 'Mourinho is first out before his players again, waiting for them to emerge from the tunnel. James Brown plays over the speaker system – which is infinitely better than Rick Astley about 15 minutes ago.'

Confirmation of tonight's team news...

Chris Wheeler at Rio Tinto Stadium writes: 'Romelu Lukaku makes his first start for United, as does Victor Lindelof. Another strong line-up and expect more changes at half-time again.

MAN UTD: Pereira; Fosu-Mensah, Lindelof, Jones, Blind; Carrick, McTominay; Lingard, Pogba, Mkhitaryan; Lukaku.'

Change of kit and change of tactics for United

Chris Wheeler at Rio Tinto Stadium writes: 'United will wear their new black change kit tonight and Jose Mourinho will also go for a change of tactics, reverting to a back-four after experimenting with three at the back against LA Galaxy in the first game.

'Players will be playing in different positions and thinking football in a different way, and being organised in a different way,’ said Mourinho. ‘We are also going to play with four at the back. We will work with the same principle – 45 and 45 minutes and, if there is a chance to give five or 10 minutes to another kid, it’s always good for them.’

02:34
Real Salt Lake will field three different sides tonight...

Chris Wheeler at Rio Tinto Stadium writes: 'We’re told that Real Salt Lake will field three separate teams tonight. Not simultaneously, of course. One for three 30-minute segments of the game. Given that Real are two points behind LA Galaxy, United’s opponents in their opening 5-2 tour win, in the MLS Western Conference we should expect another victory for Jose Mourinho’s side, even at altitude.'

Mourinho: 'Important thing if possible is to have no injuries'

Mourinho says: 'Players will play 45 minutes each. Maybe some players play a little less. Scott McTominay starts. Everyone says it's difficult to play here because of the altitude. Sometimes it's cold and sometimes it's warm. We have to adapt. The important thing if possible is to have no injuries.'

Organisers confident the game won't be delayed...

Chris Wheeler in Utah writes: 'A storm with 60mph winds has blown through the Rio Tinto Stadium with an hour to go before kick-off. Apparently it's not uncommon around these parts with all the heat and humidity, but organisers are confident it will have passed over soon.'

Looks as though Blind, Carrick and McTominay could well be starting
