Juventus have turned their attentions back to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi after growing frustrated in their pursuit of Nemanja Matic and Emre Can.

The move will encourage Manchester United to press ahead for £40million-rated Chelsea midfielder Matic. The 28-year-old Serbian is keen to move to Old Trafford where he believes he can secure a longer-term contract.

United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed during the club's tour of the US that he is not finished in the transfer market with over a month to go before it shuts on August 31.

Mourinho said: 'I'm happy with my squad but I would like to have two more players, I never hide that, one player a midfield player would give me more options to the balance and the team.

'Another one an attacking player, especially that can play through the wings to give me more attacking options but I never speak about players that belong to other teams.'

Liverpool, meanwhile, have steadfastly refused to sell Can who is in the final year of his contract and close to agreeing new terms with the Anfield club.

Reports in Italy this week claimed that Juventus had launched a £31million bid for the Germany international, with the midfielder entering the final year of his contract.

The 23-year-old is currently on an extended break following his involvement in their Confederations Cup triumph, but he is now expected to join up once more with his Liverpool team-mates before the start of the new season.

The Serie A club had hoped to sign Can, but the player is now likely to commit his future to the project under Jurgen Klopp, with the hope of cementing a Champions League group stage berth next month.

The change of direction from Juventus will also complicate Chelsea's hopes of using Matic as a potential lever in negotiations for the italian champions' left-back Alex Sandro.

United had also enquired about Roma's Nadja Nainggolan but the Italians are close to agreeing a new contract for the 29-year-old Belgian.
