Bayern Munich 0-3 Liverpool, RESULT: Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge slay hosts in Audi Cup

But first the positives. Liverpool were superb this evening, making a lacklustre Bayern Munich look very, very ordinary. They will now take on Atletico Madrid in tomorrow's final.

There wasn't a Reds player on the pitch who played poorly but Jurgen Klopp will be concerned with yet another Daniel Sturridge injury.

89min: Handbags between Arturo Vidal and Adam Lallana leads to yellow cards for both as Bayern fans stream out the stadium.

86min: And off goes Sturridge who is replaced by Dominic Solanke. A big, big shame for Sturridge.

83min: Superb goal from Daniel Sturridge, but at what cost? The striker runs in on goal before applying a delicate chip that bounces inside the post at the bottom corner.

The striker though grimaced as he applied the finish and he is now limping around with what looks like a thigh injury.

82min: Lewandowski's shot is deflected wide but it's from the corner where Bayern create their best chance of the match.

A short pass along the byline is squared across the box by Thomas Muller for Mats Hummels who turns the ball wide.

81min: Chances at both ends as Alberto Moreno rifles just wide following a cleared Liverpool corner, while Bayern win a free-kick on the edge of the box.

79min: Marco Friedl replaces Alaba, while Liverpool also make a couple of changes by sending on Jon Flanagan and Ben Woodburn for Philippe Coutinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

77min: Had that goal stood there would have been little argument against Liverpool deserving a 3-0 lead. Bayern have been dreadful and they may be forced into another change after David Alaba goes down needing treatment.

74min: Seems a strange call to me but apparently Adam Lallana was offside. In response Bayern have sent on Arturo Vidal for Corentin Tolisso.

71min: Pre-season or not, this is outstanding from Ryan Kent! The substitute picks out a high squared ball from the left before using quick feet to beat his marker on the byline and cutting back for Marko Grujic whose shot cannons off the post and Sven Ulreich for an own goal...

...wait it's been ruled out for offside!

69min: And already Sturridge has a chance! The striker runs clear in a counter attack down the left, but with just Sven Ulreich to beat he lashes wide across goal.

68min: Four changes for Liverpool as Ryan Kent, Ragnar Klavan, Marko Grujic and Daniel Sturridge replace Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson

65min: Robert Lewandowski who just hasn't got into the game manages to finally squeeze into the Liverpool box, but the striker is soon forced out wide before his hopeful byline cross is way underhit and easily cleared.

62min: Still no action, so instead we will have some substitutions on the way as Kingsley Coman comes on for Rodriguez.

59min: An actual shot on goal. What a time to be alive. It's even from a Bayern Munich player as James Rodriguez fires narrowly wide from 25 yards.

What? That's not a shot technicallyon goal? Tough, we are scraping the barrel for action right now. 

57min: Bayern fans, perhaps fed up of waiting for their side to actually turn up nearly an hour into this game, have started a Mexican wave inside the Allianz Arena.

In fairness since the second half kicked off Liverpool have just looked sharper as they continue to retain the ball.

54min: Liverpool fans are chanting 'ole' at every pass now and remain the better side. Salah is narrowly offside as he latches on to a through ball.

51min: You'll be hard pressed to find a more straight forward yellow card as after Renato Sanches is turned by Philippe Coutinho,he reaches out with both hands to pull back the Brazilian's shirt and collect a caution. 

48min: It's Liverpool who start the brighter, trying to play a game of keep-ball that although looking neat and tidy isn't really building towards much.

To be expected given it is still pre-season as Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana come on for Emre Can and Sadio Mane - the latter will be of huge relief to Bayern Munich.

Because after those first 45 minutes there appears little reason to be concerned. Liverpool have looked organised off the ball and countered brilliantly when they have won possession back from an otherwise lifeless Bayern.

In fact if Klopp odes have an issue, it's the form of Moreno. You can't drop him when he is playing as well as this. The third choice full-back has linked up very well with the standout player on the pitch in Sadio Mane.

43min: Calm down, Rafinha. It's only a friendly! The Bayern full-back is feeling the heat and really should be booked for effectively kicking Mane up in the air over on the right - more in frustration than anything. 

40min: Good try from Colentin Tolisso, who splits the Liverpool centre-backs open with a pacey through ball but although Rodriguez reads it, so does Karius is who is quick off his line to intercept.

37min: Even in a pre-season game played at a slow non-competitive pace, Liverpool are good value for this lead.

Bayern try to instantly respond by Rodriguez's high ball into the box is dealt with by the Liverpool defence.

34min: One man is running this game and Liverpool fans won't be surprised to know it's Mane.

The forward's exhibition back heel releases Moreno down the left, whose floated far post cross is nodded home by Mohamed Salah. Liquid football I think they call it.

31min: The game is being played at a very slow pace, with Bayern still not being able to find the key to unlocking this Liverpool back four.

Franck Ribery is flagged offside as he gets in behind, but replays suggest that was the wrong call.

28min: Liverpool are good value for this lead so far. Bayern Munich are really not offering much in the way of attack. James Rodriguez hasn't had a worthy kick of note - he looks such a shadow of the player that dazzled at the 2014 World Cup with Colombia.

25min: And it's Moreno with the strike, and he forces a decent if expected stop from Ulreich who can only parry the ball back into the six-yard box before Bayern scramble clear.

24min: Now it's Liverpool's turn to threaten from a set-piece after Firmino is tripped slightly to the right on the edge of the box. Moreno and Philippe Coutinho have an interest in this.

'Jurgen Klopp has picked arguably his strongest team for this contest and with a thunderstorm raging, Liverpool have started like lightening.

'Sadio Mane made a massive impression in a showpiece friendly against Barcelona 12 months ago and he has flown out of the blocks here, taking great delight in the goal he has scored. He and Mohamed Salah could cause opponents nightmares with their speed on the wings.'

21min: Bayern are taking no chances and replace Thiago with Renato Sanches - Manchester United and AC Milan will be watching with interest now...

19min: Liverpool break again on Bayern but Mane's delivery from the left is straight at Ulreich.

Bayern have other problems though with Thiago Alcantara limping off with what looks like a groin problem.

16min: Potentially being the word. Karius in fact has nothing to do as David Alaba fires wide at the near post from the set-piece.

15min: Free-kick to Bayern 25 yards out after Dejan Lovren rather clumsily trips Robert Lewandowski. On this greasy surface, this is potentially a big test for Loris Karius in the Reds goal.

12min: Bayern are continuing to attack down the left but although a cross in the box tests the Reds back four, they eventually clear the danger.

In fact Liverpool should be 2-0 up! The Reds counter down the left through Alberto Moreno whose low far post cross finds Mohamed Salah, only for the Egyptian's effort to be beaten behind for a corner by Sven Ulreich.

10min: That goal is also pretty much our only real attack from the first 10 minutes. Bayern are seeing all of the ball but are having huge problems trying to break down Liverpool who look fairly comfortable.

7min: Clinical from Liverpool! Roberto Firmino wins the ball on the halfway line to start a counter attack and after a fairly unchallenged canter through the centre of the park, he lays the ball off for Sadio Mane who slots home across goal from inside the box.

6min: Make that a lightning start in Munich... not on the pitch but in the skies as Liverpool continue to soak up Bayern pressure as well as the Bavarian rain.

3min: Bayern on top in the early moments as the rain falls inside the Allianz Arena which is nowhere near full.

The hosts are keen to attack down Alexander-Arnold's flank but no chances yet.

It's a pre-season game but you wouldn't think it judging by the huge shirt banners from both teams either side of an Audi Cup promotion that takes up the entire centre-circle. Very Champions League-esque stuff which of course these teams will know about in the next few months.

DANNY GALLAGHER: Much loved at Anfield, revered by colleagues and respected by opponents, Jurgen Klopp has made quite the impression at Liverpool since taking to the helm in 2015.

After guiding the Reds back to the elite bracket of the top four, the German is hoping to go one better and challenge for major honours this season.

Injuries mean Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alberto Moreno feature at full-back for Liverpool, and both will be keen to impress against a strong Bayern side for different reasons.

Alexander-Arnold is the budding youngster hoping to outline his first-team credentials this term, while Moreno is effectively fighting for his Reds career having dropped to third-choice in recent weeks behind James Milner and new arrival Andy Robertson.

There have been four previous editions of the Audi Cup stretching back to 2009 and the only team to have stopped Bayern Munich winning it were Barcelona six years ago - defeating the hosts in the final.

The last edition featured Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, where a certain Dele Alli first marked his credentials in a Spurs shirt. Can any young Liverpool lads make a similar impact over the next two nights?

The first semi-final of today's Audi Cup action saw Atletico Madrid triumph 2-1 over Napoli, and the Spanish outfit will take on the winner of Liverpool and Bayern in tomorrow evening's final.

And for players thinking they get a day off if they lose? Well they will feature in the warm up act of third place-play off against Napoli - so you may as well go all out and win.

The new faces are settling, the big stars are staying (for now), and there's even a trophy in the cabinet before the season has started.
