Jack Wilshere refuses to accept Arsenal days are over as he decides to stay and fight for starting place

  • Jack Wilshere spent last season on loan at Bournemouth before getting injured
  • He is now back fit at Arsenal and has opted to stay and fight for his place
  • Sportsmail revealed last month that the midfielder was free to leave the Emirates
  • Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin play midfield

Jack Wilshere is backing himself to break back into Arsene Wenger's plans and is minded to stay at Arsenal.

Sportsmail revealed last month how the midfielder was free to leave the Emirates Stadium, with the club listening to offers for the England midfielder.

However, Wilshere is determined to fight for his place in the Arsenal team.

Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka are Wenger's first-choice central pairing and will begin the season in the starting XI.

Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin are viewed as Wenger's central midfield back-up - but despite the competition Wilshere believes he can revive his Arsenal career.

Wilshere's future remains fluid, of course, and a move for another central midfielder - with Nice's Jean Michael Seri on the radar - could push the 25-year-old into a rethink.

But, as it stands, Wilshere is not willing to give up on his Arsenal career without a fight.

Sampdoria and Antalyaspor have made firm offers for Wilshere, while West Ham and Swansea have shown an interest in taking the midfielder on loan.

But Wilshere is no rush to make a big decision over his future and will instead focus on breaking back into Wenger's plans.

Wilshere is likely to be given the club's Europa League and EFL Cup campaigns to prove he is worth more game time.

The midfielder was allowed to leave Arsenal for a season-long loan at Bournemouth last term - where he made 29 appearances.

His season was cut short by a broken leg in the final weeks but he is approaching full fitness.

Wilshere has 12 months left on his contract and can leave the club for nothing at the end of next season.
