Barry is well regarded by Ronald Koeman but the Everton boss recognises the veteran midfielder's desire to play regularly at this stage of his career.

The pending arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City will only increase competition for midfield places at Goodison Park and Barry is pushing for the chance to go.

Everton are still to agree terms with Swansea for the transfer of Sigurdsson, with £45million plus Callum Connolly the latest proposal.

However, the Iceland international is set on joining Everton.

Albion also have designs on Leicester City midfielder Matty James.

West Brom scouts watched the 26-year-old in action against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday night.

James has impressed in pre-season and could be in line to play against Arsenal next week as Chelsea target Danny Drinkwater is likely to miss out with a thigh strain.
