ARSENAL (3-4-2-1)

Petr Cech - 7

His save from Pedro and timely interceptions proved crucial for Arsenal in the end.

Rob Holding - 6.5

Largely solid but endured a couple of hairy moments in defence.

Per Mertesacker - 6

Off early following clash of heads with Gary Cahill. Could be a doubt for season-opener against Leicester.

Nacho Monreal - 7

The full back showed his adaptability by playing on the left and enter of Arsenal's three-man defence.

Hector Bellerin - 6.5

His pace caused Chelsea problems. Still looks to be lacking sharpness, though.

Mohamed Elneny - 7

Plenty of energy in midfield and showed some moments of quality in the engine room.

Granit Xhaka - 8

Kept things ticking along nicely in the Arsenal midfield before eventually unlocking the Chelsea defence.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 7

A threat going forward and sound defensively. Arsenal must resolve his contract impasse.

Danny Welbeck - 7.5

Looking sharp after last season's injury disrupted campaign. Will come as a boost to Arsene Wenger.

Alex Iwobi - 6.5

His quick feet posed problems for Chelsea. Arsenal need more consistency for the Nigerian this season.

Alexandre Lacazette - 6.5

Still needs time to bed into this team but showed some promising signs. Denied by the post.

CHELSEA (3-4-3)

Thibault Courtois - 6

Brilliant save to deny Xhaka's second half piledriver but missed vital penalty in the shootout.

Cesar Azpilicueta - 6.5

Another dependable display from Chelsea's Mr Reliable. Booked.

David Luiz - 7

A dominant and confident display in the heart of Cheslea's defence. Oozed class.

Gary Cahill - 7

The new Chelsea captain led by example and played a key role in Moses' opener.

Victor Moses - 7

Excellent display from the right-wing back and capped it with a Wembley goal.

N'Golo Kante - 7.5

Boundless energy from the France midfielder as he covered every blade of grass…twice.

Cesc Fabregas - 7

Put abuse from Arsenal fans to one side to produce a confident performance.

Marcos Alonso - 6

Quietly went about his business on the left before big substituted in the second half. Booked.

Pedro - 5.5

The masked Spaniard was Chelsea's villain after his red card for a dangerous challenge on Elneny.

Michy Batshuayi - 6

Preferred to record signing Alvaro Morata in the lone striker role but didn't take his chance.

Played the pass of the match with an outrageous outside of the boot ball to Morata. Unfortunate to be booked for diving.

Subs: Morata 5 (for Batshauyi 73); Rudiger 6 (Alonso 79); Musonda 6 (Willian 83)

Not used: Caballero, Christensen, Scott, Boga
