Virgil van Dijk has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a summer move away from St Mary's.
The Dutch defender has attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool and Premier League champions Chelsea.
In a statement, Van Dijk claimed he had 'no alternative' but to hand in the request after being fined two weeks' wages.
SIMON JONES: Middlesbrough midfielder Marten de Roon is keen on a return to Italy.
The Dutchman started against Wolves at the weekend but after Atalanta had an £8million bid rejected, the 26-year-old is ready to leave.
Boro goalkeeper Connor Ripley has signed a new contract ahead of joining Burton Albion on loan.
JACK GAUGHAN: Jose Mourinho has opened the door to a sensational move for Gareth Bale.
The Manchester United manager claimed he will be watching keenly to see whether Bale plays for Real Madrid in Tuesday's Super Cup final.
Mourinho believes Real want to keep the Welshman but revealed United will be front of the queue should he become available.
'If he's playing tomorrow then I wouldn't think of that [signing Bale],' Mourinho said in Macedonia.
'If he's playing tomorrow it's because he's in the club's plans. He has that ambition to continue in Madrid.
'I haven't even thought about the possibility. If he's not in the club plans - that what you are writing is true - with the arrival of another player, then we'll try to wait for him on the other side and fight with other coaches.'
SIMON JONES: Burnley are discussing a potential move for Colombia international Duvan Zapata.
The 26-year-old Napoli striker has spent the last two seasons on loan at Udinese in Serie A and has scored 19 goals.
Zapata could be available on another loan though Napoli are keen to sell. Torino offered £12million for him in July but their offer was rejected.
Zapata saw a move to West Ham fall through in 2013 prior to moving to Italy.
Burnley have Andre Gray, who is understood to have switched agents to Jorge Mendes, and he has one year left on contract.
West Ham, Everton and Watford have made enquiries but Burnley are reluctant to sell the 26-year-old.
Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho wants to join Barcelona but will not force a move to the Catalan giants because he wants an amicable exit from Anfield.
Coutinho is high on Barcelona's summer wishlist and the Spanish outfit have an even bigger transfer war chest due to Neymar's £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona's £72m bid for Coutinho was rejected over two weeks ago and they are yet to increase their opening offer.
SIMON JONES: Stoke City are looking to push through a deal for Bruno Martins Indi this week.
They had faced competition from Crystal Palace for the 25-year-old but now look to have agreed terms with Porto on a £7.25m transfer fee.
Brighton have broken their club transfer record to sign Davy Propper from PSV Eindhoven.
The Holland midfielder, 25, has signed a four-year contract after joining the Premier League club for a fee which could rise to £10million.
His arrival represents the second time this summer, following the signing of goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, that Brighton have broken their transfer record.
Ligue 1 outfit Nice have signed Wesley Sneijder on a free transfer.
The former Holland international, 33, departed Galatasaray in the summer after four seasons in Turkey.
Nice revealed the signing at the weekend and confirmed that the deal had been completed on Monday.
LUKE AUGUSTUS: Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has lifted the lid on the part he played in getting Romelu Lukaku to join the club.
Lukaku moved to Old Trafford for a £75million transfer fee – making him the most expensive striker in English football history.
The former Everton star's move from Merseyside to Manchester sees him and close friend Pogba become buddies on and off the pitch now.
MATT MALTBY: Ahead of making his highly-anticipated debut for Paris Saint-Germain this weekend, world-record signing Neymar has been enjoying a last-minute holiday in St Tropez.
The £198million arrival, who completed his sensational move from Barcelona last week, missed out on making his first appearance for PSG last Saturday due to a paperwork malfunction between the French league and their Spanish counterparts.
The new boy was not registered in time to take part in PSG's 2-0 win over Amiens but received a hero's welcome on a tour of the Parc des Princes pitch before kick-off.
Gareth Bale is now just 15/8 to join Manchester United from Real Madrid this summer following a flurry of bets.
Betway have slashed the odds from 4/1 after money came in over the weekend, while the odds on the Welshman moving Chelsea have also dropped from 20/1 to 12/1.
Bale to remain at the Bernabeu is available at 1/3.
Johan Djourou has signed a two-year contract with the option of an extra season after leaving Hamburg on a free transfer earlier this summer.
Manchester United have made a £36million offer for Barcelona's Sergi Roberto, according to reports in Spain.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barca have rejected the bid, but are also aware of interest from Premier League champions Chelsea.
Roberto, who operated at right back for much of last season, is said to want to stay at the Nou Camp despite the arrival of Nelson Semedo from Benfica.
SIMON JONES: Brighton's deal for midfielder Davy Propper from PSV Eindhoven could rise to a club record £10million.
Talks between the two clubs are at advanced stage with the Seagulls confident of sealing the Holland international’s capture before their Premier League opener against Manchester City.
The Dutchman scored 10 goals in 43 games for the Eredivisie outfit from central midfield last season.
Ipswich have signed striker Martyn Waghorn from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
Waghorn, 27, who has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, follows former Rangers team-mate Joe Garner to Portman Road.
'Mick McCarthy adds firepower to his striking options with the signing of Martyn Waghorn from Rangers, paying a substantial fee to land the forward,' Ipswich said on their official website.
'The former Leicester man has passed a medical and penned his contract and will be hoping to make his debut for the Blues in the Carabao Cup away to Luton (on Tuesday).'
Waghorn made eight appearances for hometown club Sunderland after progressing through their academy and joined Leicester in a £3million deal in 2010.
He had loan spells at Hull, Millwall and Wigan before moving north to Rangers on a free transfer in 2015 and scored 41 goals in a total of 78 appearances.
Waghorn partnered Garner up front for the Scottish side last season, with Ipswich signing the latter for an undisclosed fee in June.
Rafa Benitez has admitted his frustration over Newcastle United's lack of transfer activity.
The Spaniard has seen around £30million spent on signings following their promotion to the Premier League but feels he has been sold short.
Speaking after Newcastle's 2-0 friendly win over Hellas Verona on Sunday, Benitez said: 'When I decided to stay, I was expecting another thing. Now we are where we are.'
MIKE KEEGAN: Mourinho wanted four players and so far he has three. There is, however, time yet.
Nothing is in the pipeline but Ed Woodward knows his work is not done yet and do not be surprised if there is another unveiling before the month is out.
Ivan Perisic is looking less likely. The winger would add pace and creativity, but United believe Inter Milan will not sell until they can appease fans with a suitable replacement.
MATT BARLOW: Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer is planning a raid on his native Holland to sign Luuk de Jong from PSV Eindhoven.
Striker De Jong endured a miserable spell on loan at Newcastle in 2014 when he failed to score a goal.
The 26-year-old has since re-established his reputation to some degree at PSV, twice winning the title, but he scored only eight times in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.
SIMON JONES: Stoke City have agreed a three year deal for Schalke forward Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. The Hamburg-born Cameroon international is out of contract and will join on a free transfer.
Choupo-Moting is 6ft 3ins tall but quick, technically good and can play as a left winger or secondary striker. He was at Stoke today ahead of completing his move.
Manager Mark Hughes wants versatility in his front line after selling Marko Arnautovic and Jon Walters and the 28-year-old Choupo-Moting can provide that.
SIMON JONES: Juventus' Mario Lemina is having his medical at Southampton ahead of his £18million move to St Mary's.
The Gabon international, who was also a target for Stoke City, will join for £16.2m plus a further £1.8m in add-ons.
Juventus are looking to add a new centre back to their ranks after selling Leonardo Bonucci to rivals AC Milan.

The Italian newspaper claim that one of the duo would act as cover next season.

Left back Borthwick-Jackson, 20, who spent last season on loan at Wolves, completed a medical on Friday night and becomes Leeds' 10th first-team summer signing.
'Leeds United are delighted to announce the signing of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson from Manchester United,' the Sky Bet Championship club announced on their official website.
Paris Saint-Germain want another marquee signing to partner world-record arrival Neymar, with Kylian Mbappe and Philippe Coutinho their top targets.
According to Le Parisien on Monday, PSG are planning an overhaul to finance yet another blockbuster transfer before the window shuts on August 31.
Mbappe is their ideal addition and the publication claim he is open to the idea of playing with £198m man Neymar but if Monaco cannot be persuaded into doing business, PSG will turn attention to Neymar's Brazil compatriot Coutinho.
Diego Simeone has refused to be drawn into any speculation over bringing wantaway Chelsea striker Diego Costa back to Atletico Madrid this summer.
'I don't want to comment too much,' Simeone said after his side beat Premier League new boys Brighton 3-2.
'The fact is he is still with Chelsea. The most important thing to me is the work of my club in general, not only in training. I have to work with what I have.'
JACK GAUGHAN: Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set for a medical at Crystal Palace after agreeing to a season-long loan.
The Manchester United defender has been allowed to depart for the capital in order to experience an extended period of games.
Palace's new manager Frank De Boer was aware of the need for defensive reinforcements and did have a tentative interest in Daley Blind.
Philippe Coutinho will sign for Barcelona this week, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
They claim that the Liverpool playmaker will put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal at the Nou Camp, as will Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez.
Liverpool are said to want Barca midfielder Andre Gomes included as part of the deal for Coutinho, who is keen to play alongside Lionel Messi and Co.
Mundo Deportivo also say the La Liga giants are continuing negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Ousmane Dembele after selling Neymar to PSG for £198million last week.
SAMI MOKBEL: Antonio Conte snapped on Sunday after he was quizzed about Chelsea's transfer business as his team slumped to a successive Wembley loss to Arsenal.
Chelsea have splashed close to £150million on four new players this summer: Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero.
Yet, Conte wants further reinforcements through the door, particularly given his side play in the Champions League this season.
When he was questioned about transfers following Sunday's defeat; Conte provided an indicatively frosty answer.
He said: 'I have always replied to this question. I hope in the future to have different questions, than if there is necessity to improve our squad.
'I have replied. My reply is always (this) one, otherwise it means I was telling you a lie. I repeat always the same.'
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is satisfied with his current defensive options and believes there are few centre backs in the transfer market who could improve his current squad ahead of the Premier League season.
Liverpool were hoping to add Virgil van Dijk from Southampton but withdrew their interest in the Dutch centre back after Saints accused them of making an illegal approach.
'Look out there and tell me five that would make us stronger. Five. Then you win a prize. It's difficult how it is,' Klopp said.
'We have four. I don't think we need more. We cannot force the things and we would never get a centre back just because (of the sake of it).'
Leonardo Bonucci's sensational switch from Juventus to AC Milan began as a joke, before it quickly became reality, director Massimiliano Mirabelli has revealed.
Milan prised the £35million defender from the Italian champions during a summer spending spree which has seen them recruit a staggering 10 players so far this window.
But it turns out, Bonucci was never a target for the Milan club. That was until Mirabelli realised the player's agent, Alessandro Lucci, persistently brought up his star client during meetings.
Ligue 1 outfit Nice have agreed to sign Wesley Sneijder on a free transfer.
The former Holland international, 33, departed Galatasaray in the summer after four seasons in Turkey.
Nice revealed the signing at the weekend, saying 'An agreement in principle was reached this Sunday between OGC Nice and Wesley Sneijder!'
Ronald Koeman has confirmed Everton are 'close' to completing the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City.
The Welsh club want £50million for the Iceland international and Koeman spoke about the deal after Everton’s 2-2 friendly draw with Sevilla.
'It is close but we have to wait,' Koeman said of the 27-year-old Iceland international. 'The deal isn't done.'
DOMINIC KING: Tottenham have targeted Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo as they look to make their first signing of the summer.
Cancelo has been a priority for Juventus, who are looking to replace Dani Alves, and the Serie A champions are prepared to pay £25million for the 23-year-old, who represented Portugal at this summer’s Under-21 European Championships.
But Tottenham have now emerged as serious rivals to Juventus, who they beat 2-0 at Wembley on Saturday, for Cancelo, who is eager to leave Valencia; they sent scouts to watch him play for Portugal in Poland in June and Mauricio Pochettino is eager to recruit him.
