Tottenham stars are put through their paces as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Co train ahead of their Premier League opener against returning Newcastle

  • Tottenham will kick their season off on Sunday when they travel to Newcastle
  • Mauricio Pochettino's side are yet to make a signing in the summer window
  • Golden Boot winner Harry Kane and playmaker Dele Alli were hard at work
  • While flop signing Moussa Sissoko is bidding to get back into the fray at Spurs

Tottenham are undergoing their final preparations on the training ground ahead of the new Premier League season.

The north London club claimed their highest spot in the table in a Premier League season last year, finishing second having been pipped to the title by Chelsea.

And Mauricio Pochettino's men have been hard at work behind the scenes this summer as they bid to go one better this term.

That challenge starts against newly promoted Newcastle this Sunday. And while Pochettino attended the league headquarters on Tuesday afternoon for the manager's annual meeting, his players took to the training ground.

Harry Kane, the top flight's best goalscorer last year with 29 goals, was among the stars to train at Spurs' Enfield complex.

As was playmaker Dele Alli, who himself chipped in with 18 goals and nine assists in the league last term.

A less successful story at White Hart Lane was Moussa Sissoko, who joined from relegated Newcastle at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The Frenchman has flopped since his move from the north east, failing to open his goalscoring account or force his way into Pochettino's first-choice midfield.

But he trained alongside his team-mates as he bids to get back into the reckoning in a well-stocked section of the Spurs squad.

Tottenham are yet to sign a player this transfer window but have let four players walk out the door, most notably£54million defender Kyle Walker who was snapped up by Manchester City.

So Spurs' stars have had to go the extra mile in training to make up for their inactivity in the market this far and ensure they build on a successful campaign last year.

And on Sunday, their streamlined squad will pit their wits against Rafael Benitez's Premier League new boys to kick off their season.
