Arsenal Premier League season 17-18 preview: Martin Keown's guide

The Premier League season is now just hours away, and it is time to look ahead to how the 20 teams will all get on.

Sportsmail has recruited columnist Martin Keown to run through reasons to be cheerful and fearful, as well as the key player and major signings.

Here is the lowdown on Arsenal...

WHO'S IN CHARGE?

Arsene Wenger - The FA Cup triumph seemed to rejuvenate him. Defeat may have made it difficult for Wenger to carry on but I was shocked by his calmness at Wembley. That win could energise him to go on to better things this season.

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

The switch to a back three brought nine wins in their last 10 games, including victory against the odds over Chelsea in the FA Cup final. Arsenal looked like streetfighters at Wembley and if they can match that hunger their Champions League exile won’t last long. With Arsene Wenger starting what could be his last two years, it is important the manager, players and fans are united.

REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

It looks as if Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will stay and while I am pleased Arsenal have decided not to cash in, the club cannot afford to overindulge them like last season.

KEY PLAYER

Alexandre Lacazette - A goal machine. Wenger has always wanted a striker in the Thierry Henry mould and he may have found that player. He will need time to settle in but Wenger will give him all the support he can.

MAJOR INS

Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) £53m, Sead Kolasinac (Schalke) free

MAJOR OUTS

Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus) £10m, Chris Willock (Benfica) free, Yaya Sanogo (released)

LAST SEASON POSITION: 5TH

WHERE WILL THEY FINISH THIS SEASON?

The Europa League will be a massive burden but I can see Arsenal reclaiming a place in the top four.
