Burnley have made enquiries for Deportivo striker Florin Andone after being rebuffed in two bids for Leeds United's Chris Wood.
Newcastle are in talks over a deal for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan.
Rafa Benitez has lost Paul Drummett to injury and had also made enquiries about Genoa full-back Diego Laxalt but Bryan is seen a player with potential who can step into the first team.
Birmingham City and Leeds United have also attempted to sign Bryan this summer but a move to Newcastle could prove hard to resist.
Bryan, a graduate of Bristol City's academy, has played 181 times since his debut in 2012.
SIMON JONES: Jese Rodriguez is understood to have trained with Stoke City today ahead of the club announcing his loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
SIMON JONES AND ALEX MARTIN: Tottenham target Davinson Sanchez turned up at Ajax's training ground on Tuesday but is understood to have informed coaches that he did not wish to train.
The 21-year-old instead did work in the gym while his teammates trained outside and met with Ajax supporters as he departed in his car.
Regardless of his wish to move, Sanchez granted one fan's wish for a photo as he left the training ground after an isolated session. He rolled down his window and posed for a selfie before driving away.

Watford FC confirms that Luke Dowling has left the club after his contract expired.
Luke took up the position of Sporting Director nearly three years ago, and leaves to pursue other opportunities.
'After three great seasons with Watford, I felt it was a good time to turn down the chance to stay on further and look for another project,” said Dowling of the mutually-agreed decision.
'We thank Luke for all he has done while at Watford and he will remain a welcome guest at Vicarage Road in the future,' said Hornets’ Chairman Scott Duxbury.
Added Dowling: 'I feel proud to have contributed to the success we’ve had along the way. The promotion we enjoyed and then the FA Cup run while retaining our Premier League status has made my time at the club an enjoyable and memorable one.
'I’ve worked with some great people at the club, and I thank Gino Pozzo and Scott Duxbury immensely for the opportunity to be part of it.'
Hull have rejected an improved £10million offer from Premier League side Burnley for midfielder Sam Clucas.
The Tigers, determined to keep hold of Clucas after the departure of seven key players already this summer, were reported to have turned down an initial bid for the 26-year-old last week.
A Hull spokesman confirmed to Press Association Sport that Burnley's latest approach had been rebuffed.
Clucas, a shining light for the Tigers last season as he played in all but one of their Premier League matches, had previously been linked with West Brom, who now appear set to sign Gareth Barry from Everton.
Tigers head coach Leonid Slutsky, appointed in June, is desperate to strengthen in his bid to guide the club straight back to the top flight.
The squad the Russian inherited has been depleted by the summer departures of defenders Curtis Davies, Harry Maguire, Josh Tymon and Andy Robertson, goalkeeper
Eldin Jakupovic, plus midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Ahmed Elmohamady.
Should Clucas follow his former team-mates out of the KCOM Stadium, the departure of another prized asset would be a major blow to Slutsky's plans.

Tom Lawrence has made the move from Leicester to Derby and the club have unveiled their newest recruit with a Twitter video.
Carlos Tevez has been granted a return to his native Argentina for treatment on a calf injury, but only after agreeing in writing to return to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua before the end of the month.
Speculation has been mounting in local media that the former Manchester United and Juventus forward was attempting to orchestrate a move back to Boca Juniors, who sold the 33-year-old to Shenhua for £10m in January.
The £650,000-a-week star has played just 11 times in the league for Shenhua, scoring twice, with his fitful performances blamed on the injury that first occurred in April.
SIMON JONES: Tottenham target Davinson Sanchez is understood to have turned up Ajax's training ground today but informed coaches that he did not wish to train.
The 21-year-old instead did work in the gym while his teammates trained outside.
Talks are ongoing between the clubs over a fee.
SIMON JONES: Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo is joining Fulham on loan.
The 20-year-old was a target for Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Derby County and Aston Villa though Liverpool have wanted guarantees that he will play and continue his development wherever he goes.
Ojo, who suffered a stress fracture in his back last season, has had loan spells at Wigan and Wolves previously. He held talks with Fulham last week and has decided on Craven Cottage for his next move.
ALEX MARTIN: Liverpool stars Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge arrived at their Melwood training ground on Tuesday as the rest of the squad prepared to take on Hoffenheim in the Champions League qualifier.
Coutinho and Sturridge were pictured driving into the Liverpool training ground in separate cars and are expected to take part in individualised sessions as part of their rehabilitation.
The pair were left out of Jurgen Klopp's travelling squad with respective injury issues although the Brazilian's absence was made all the more notable by Barcelona's continued interest in a £90million transfer.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has revealed he wanted to sign striker Sandro Ramirez from Malaga this summer before he opted for Everton.
The former Barcelona forward decided on a move to Goodison Park instead, in a deal worth £5.2million.
And speaking to Croatian publication Slobodna Dalmacija, Bilic said they looked at the prospect of adding Ramirez to their striking options this season.
Bilic said: 'Ramirez from Malaga came in, he was in Barcelona and we wanted him and he chose Everton.'
Manchester United target Ivan Perisic looks set to stay at Inter this summer.
Inter boss Luciano Spalletti revealed there was a moment where his interest was piqued by United sniffing around, but the winger has ultimately decided to stay at the San Siro.
'Perisic is determined to stay,' Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia.
'There was a moment [when he considered moving], but then he spoke like a footballer who is interested in doing the right thing for his professionalism and he drew a conclusion.'
Former Manchester United stalwarts Rene Meulensteen and Wes Brown have made the switch to the Indian Super League.
Meulensteen will make the move as head coach while Brown will be there in a playing capacity.
Meulensteen's last job in charge was as head coach of Maccabi Haifa, who he joined last summer before resigning just six months later in February.
Meanwhile Brown, who won 11 major trophies at Manchester United, joins as a free agent after running down his contract at Blackburn.
Liverpool have had two bids rebuffed for Naby Keita this summer but RB Leipzig could be forced to let him leave at a cut-price next year, according to sporting director Ralf Rangnick.
Jurgen Klopp was ready to smash Liverpool's transfer record to bring in the midfielder, tabling a second bid of £66million last month.
Rangnick confirmed that contact was made between the two clubs but negotiations ground to a halt as the German side refused to let their star man leave.
HARRY SLAVIN: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed Emre Can has voiced his desire to stay at Anfield, but could not hide his frustration at the current deadlock over a new contract.
The midfielder has travelled to Germany with the rest of the squad as they prepare for their Champions League play-off tie with Hoffenheim, with no end in sight to contract talks that have stalled over the summer.
Klopp is already having trouble convincing Philippe Coutinho to stay on at the Premier League club amid interest from Barcelona, and the German manager admits he is frustrated the situation has not been dealt with.
SIMON JONES: Brighton and Hove Albion have enquired about taking Lille striker Eder on loan.
The Portugal international, who scored his country's winning goal in the Euro 2016 final and had a brief spell with Swansea City, is valued at £5.5million and Birmingham City are also among the clubs to enquire.
Brighton manager Chris Hughton is determined to strengthen his attacking options. They will complete a club record £13.5million deal for Club Brugge winger Jose Izquierdo tomorrow and have been rebuffed in an £8million bid for FC Zurich striker Raphael Dwamena.
PETE SOUTH: There's less than three weeks left of the transfer window left, but there's still so many futures to sort out.
As is always the case, buying clubs are playing a game of chicken with those looking to sell (or not as the case may be) and it's likely to go down to the wire.
There are a handful of big money deals that have reached an impasse and the wheels of commerce will only start turning when time becomes a pressing issue once again - so who are the players waiting in limbo before the end of the window?
SIMON JONES: Tottenham delegates met the representative of Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport last night.
Tottenham opened the bidding at £28million for the 21-year-old Colombian who is represented by Fernando Schena and talks are ongoing with Ajax who want closer to £36million.
Sanchez joined Ajax from Colombian club Atletico Nacional last summer and was named the club's Player of the Year last season.
ROBERT COTTINGHAM: Ousmane Dembele turned down a move to Barcelona last summer because he believed he wasn't ready to play for one of the 'absolute top clubs'.
Dembele opted to join Borussia Dortmund after leaving French side Rennes in May 2016, despite interest from European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
And former Bayern director Michael Reschke revealed that Dembele's decision was motivated by doubts that he was ready to play for one of Europe's elite.
SIMON JONES: Chelsea have been rebuffed in their latest enquiry for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro.
Antonio Conte has prioritised the Brazilian left-back but the Italians insist he is not for sale.
Chelsea, however, are expected to make further attempts before the window draws to a close.
SIMON JONES: Fulham are understood to have rejected a bid worth £25million from Tottenham for teenage full-back Ryan Sessegnon.
The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract earlier this summer.
Liverpool pulled out of the race for his signature as they believed he would join Tottenham.
Tottenham have confirmed an interest in Sessegnon, however say they have yet to make a formal offer
Fulham are in talks with Cardiff City over a potential deal to sign left-back Joe Bennett from the Welsh club, while Bordeaux’s Maxime Poundje is also an option.
SIMON JONES: Everton are closing on a £45million agreement with Swansea City for Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The Goodison Park club are proposing £40million up front with two lots of £2.5million in add-ons.
Sigurdsson has told Swansea he wishes to leave and join Everton and is now waiting on the club's owners to give the transfer the all-clear.
Swansea have made the signing of Wilfried Bony from Manchester City a priority with the clubs negotiating a £12million fee and Paul Clement also hopes to persuade West Bromwich Albion to sell Nacer Chadli.
JOHN GREECHAN: Former Celtic captain Stephen McManus has hailed Kieran Tierney as an emerging superstar able to reach the very top of the global game.
But he believes the 20-year-old full-back, already the subject of interest from major European clubs, is in the perfect place to develop his skills right now.
Tierney, who become the youngest skipper in Celtic history when deputising for Scott Brown, has widely been hailed as – potentially – the best Scottish full-back since the legendary Danny McGrain.
Philippe Coutinho is set for an imminent move to Barcelona and will be joined by Borussia Dortmund star Ousmane Dembele, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
While Liverpool owners released a statement saying they intend to keep Coutinho at the club, Barcelona have been boosted by his attempts to agitate his way out of Anfield.
Liverpool have already rejected an offer from Barcelona worth £90million but the Spanish outfit have been boosted by the playmaker's attempt to agitate his way out of the club by handing in a transfer request.
MATT BARLOW: Premier League clubs are preparing to enforce their own transfer deadline next summer to close the market before the season starts.
The proposal could be on the agenda for next month’s meeting of chairmen, with most of the 20 clubs keen to back the idea.
Many managers have spoken out in support of such a change to bring clarity to their preparations.
Burnley are poised to make an improved £20million bid for Leeds United striker Chris Wood.
Leeds have said the 25-year old is not for sale and dismissed Burnley's offer of £12m plus add-ons last week.
However, Sean Dyche is undeterred and wants to push through a deal for the New Zealand international who scored 30 goals last season.
And let's start with some breaking news this morning...
SIMON JONES: Gareth Barry will join West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday in a £1million deal.
The 36-year old midfielder is leaving Everton to sign a one-year contract at the Hawthorns with the option of a further year.
Sportsmail revealed Albion's interest last month and Tony Pulis is delighted to finally land Barry as a replacement for Darren Fletcher who left for Stoke City.
