From Philippe Coutinho's Barcelona move to Kylian Mbappe's transfer saga... What deals are in the balance with two weeks of the window left?

  • The summer transfer window is heading towards another chaotic conclusion
  • There are still numerous major deals that need to be resolved before August 31
  • Philippe Coutinho is trying to seal a move to Barcelona, as is Ousmane Dembele
  • Sportsmail takes a look at the deals that are at an impasse that could still happen

There's about two weeks of the transfer window left, but there's still so many futures to sort out.

As is always the case, buying clubs are playing a game of chicken with those looking to sell (or not as the case may be) and it's likely to go down to the wire.

There are a handful of big money deals that have reached an impasse and the wheels of commerce will only start turning when time becomes a pressing issue once again - so who are the players waiting in limbo before the end of the window?

Sportsmail takes a look.

Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool to Barcelona

Probably the transfer saga of the summer so far after Neymar. Barcelona are in the market for a replacement having lost the Brazilian to Paris Saint-Germain.

Coutinho isn't exactly that player but he can certainly fill a hole in the Catalan club's attacking line up and he wants to move.

The issue is that Liverpool are adamant he is going nowhere. Last week, club owners FSG issued a statement saying he's not for sale, which put an end to matters. For about an hour, anyway, as news began to filter out that Coutinho has handed in a transfer request.

Spanish media continue to report a deal in the region of £100million could be done but Liverpool don't look likely to budge. Now it comes down to how much pressure Coutinho can exert on his employers to force a move.

Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal to Manchester City/PSG

While Coutinho has snatched the headlines, the Sanchez transfer saga has gone a little under the radar in the last few weeks.

Arsenal have offered him a contract worth £300,000-per-week to keep him in north London, but he seems keen on a move away.

He set tongues wagging by sending a tweet that was geo-located to Paris recently, prompting speculation he was talking to PSG, although that seems unlikely as they are set to do a big deal for Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester City's interest seems legitimate but they don't appear to be pushing hard for the deal given the lack of speculation over the past few weeks. He only has one year left on his contract so the leverage is there, but City or PSG need to make the move happen now.

Danny Drinkwater, Leicester to Chelsea

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Chelsea so far. They've chased numerous deals but have fallen just short - although they've still managed to spend well in excess of £100million.

Unlike some of their other moves, their pursuit of Danny Drinkwater is likely to end in success.

The Blues have had one offer turned down one offer, but are sure to come back with another in the region of £25million.

The only complication is whether Leicester dig their heels in and demand more of the cash Chelsea received for Nemanja Matic, the man Drinkwater will ostensibly be replacing.

Ross Barkley, Everton to Tottenham

In theory, all the pieces are in place. Everton have confirmed that Barkely won't sign a new deal and Ronald Koeman has said he will '100 per cent' leave.

Tottenham haven't signed anyone and have a great core of young English players he could join. All seems too perfect, right?

Well, not quite. Because Everton were demanding a sizeable fee of £50million. Their stance has softened a little recently and a lesser offer could do the job, but Koeman has also left the door ajar for the local lad to play for the Toffees again.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked, but this has all the signs of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy making a last minute swoop and trying to get himself a bargain. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Ousmane Dembele, Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona

The 20-year old would be the most exciting prospect in European football if it had not been for the emergence of his French compatriot Kylian Mbappe.

With eight goals and an incredible 18 assists to speak of from his debut season at Borussia Dortmund, Dembele has been pinpointed as the most likely successor to Neymar at Barcelona. If he does join, then Coutinho could fill the 'Iniesta' role, which comes more naturally to him.

The Spanish outfit obviously have plenty to spend following the Brazilian's £198m exit and, despite figures of €100m (£91m) being touted, the Nou Camp outfit have not been put off and are ready to invest in the prodigious talent.

Dembele is doing all he can to force a move by going AWOL from training last week, much to the frustration of his team.

Kylian Mbappe, Monaco to PSG/Real Madrid

The summer started with talk of Arsenal spending £100m on the Monaco sensation but the fluctuations of the market has seen his valuation shoot up to almost £170m.

It is an astronomical figure yet still one several clubs appear willing to pay. Real Madrid remain in the chase but PSG have stolen a march with the latest talk saying he will move to Parc des Princes next summer.

He was named on the bench for Monaco's most recent Ligue 1 match against Dijon, which Leonardo Jardim admitted was a 'club decision', and suggested a move this summer is still very much on the cards.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea to Everton

Another deal involving Everton, another supposedly £50million-rated player.

Swansea have seriously dug their heels in and refused to be bullied by Everton, demanding a huge fee for a player who, in the Premier League, scored nine goals and provided 13 assists in a relegation-threatened side last season.

There's also been a hold-up while Swansea identify a replacement and now Nacer Chadli from West Brom seems to be that man, the deal is set to go ahead shortly.

Swans boss Paul Clement has confirmed the deal will be done 'in the next couple of days'.

Virgil Van Dijk, Southampton to Liverpool/Manchester City/Chelsea

This one has been going on for a while. Van Dijk told Southampton he wanted to leave. Liverpool wanted to sign him. Southampton reported Liverpool over tapping up and the Reds scampered away with their tail between their legs, insisting that their interest in the defender was over.

Now, with the window coming to a close, the rumours are resurfacing again. Liverpool have to tread carefully having been exposed once, although a lot of the groundwork was done first time around.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked but it seems like Merseyside is the most likely destination. Southampton have done a lot of business with the Reds and £60million for a wantaway player may be too tempting.
