Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he wants four signings before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Tottenham have not added to their squad since the end of last season and have sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City.
Several deals are inching towards completion, however, with interest in Davinson Sanchez of Ajax, Pape Cheikh Diop of Celta Vigo, Paulo Gazzaniga of Southampton and Ross Barkley of Everton.

'I want four players if possible but it is not easy,' said Pochettino, and he backed the club's slow-and-steady style of recruitment, which he believes helps to reduce scope for errors.
'We need time to work,' he added. 'We always sign three or four, every season. It's important to try to assess the players who have possibility to come.
'We are a very strong group, and we create good habits and philosophy. It's not easy for us to sign the right profile.
'But easy for players to come to Tottenham, because good people will come. Most important thing is trying to be right in the players we sign for the future of the club.'

Asked about Sanchez, Pochettino replied: 'I cannot speak about him, he's not our player, he's in another club and I fully respect every club and every player.
'I never speak about rumours but we expect to sign some players before the end of the window.
'That's our aim, to try to improve the squad and bring in new faces and new energy.
'It will be a long season and we need to add some players.'
Pochettino hopes to have Kieran Trippier available after an ankle injury to face Chelsea on Sunday.
The north London side also continue to be linked with Everton midfielder Ross Barkley
The Argentine also offered a message of sympathy and solidarity for his adopted city of Barcelona, where he represented Espanyol as a player and a manager.
Pochettino said: 'I would like to send my solidarity and my support for the victims of the tragic event in Barcelona, my city. I am sad and want to send my best wishes and support to everyone.'
