Jack Wilshere trains hard while Arsenal team-mate Alexis Sanchez does likewise despite Arsene Wenger saying he should miss Stoke City away

  • Arsenal players trained at London Colney on Friday ahead of their trip to Stoke
  • Midfielder Jack Wilshere looked fighting fit after recovering from a broken leg
  • Wilshere made slide tackles, sprinted, looked good on the ball and took corners
  • Alexis Sanchez also trained well despite suggestions he will miss the Stoke game
  • Manager Arsene Wenger hinted earlier this week that Sanchez would be rested
  • But it is now hoped that he could get some game time at the bet365 Stadium

Jack Wilshere appeared to be well over his latest injury setback as he put on an energetic performance during Arsenal training on Friday.

The Gunners midfielder fractured his left fibula in April while on loan at Bournemouth, but recently returned to full training.

He didn't seem at all phased by his leg as he threw himself into multiple slide tackles and ran at full pelt during sprint drills.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of persistent transfer talk this summer, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently claimed that he plans to keep him.

Wenger said: 'I plan for him to be here for the season, after we will see.'

Arsenal play Stoke City away on Saturday - traditionally one of their toughest fixtures.

The Gunners won 4-1 at Stoke last season, but had gone six trips without a victory prior to that.

Alexis Sanchez, who scored in Arsenal's convincing triumph at the bet365 Stadium last season, also trained on Friday, but is likely to be rested this weekend.

The Chilean international could make his first appearance of the season this weekend, having missed Arsenal's 4-3 win over Leicester.

Wenger claimed earlier this week that it was unlikely that Sanchez would play due to an abdominal injury.

He said: 'His recovery is going well. It is a muscular strain so you have to be careful.'

But there is now hope that Sanchez could at least make a cameo against the Potters.

Sanchez's impressive training performance may have given Wenger a selection headache, but one man guaranteed to start is summer signing Alexandre Lacazette.

The France international marked his Premier League debut with a headed goal against Leicester on the opening day.

Lacazette continued to work on his headers in training, which took place amid frequently changing weather.

Much of the work-out was hit by heavy rain.

After the session, Arsenal set off for Stoke by train, with midfielder Granit Xhaka sharing a travel selfie on Instagram.

Xhaka posted the image to Instagram along with the caption: 'Gunners are coming!'
