Engels, a 6ft 4in stopper who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Everton, has helped the Belgium side start the season with four league wins but could not help them get past Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Stoke have added PSG and former Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriguez to a list of in-comings already featuring Max Choupo-Moting, Zouma, Darren Fletcher and teenager Josh Tymon.

Marko Arnautovic, Glenn Whelan and Jon Walters have left during the summer.
