Arsenal are facing the prospect of having to sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this month.

Sportsmail understands the Gunners have now made a final contract offer to the England international worth £180,000 per week.

However, the 24-year-old is likely to reject the offer meaning the club will look to offload the player instead of losing him for nothing next summer.

But Liverpool remain interested and could yet rival the Premier League champions for the Arsenal star's signature.

Intriguingly, Arsenal face Liverpool on Sunday and it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will select Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The former Southampton man had previously shown a reluctance to sign a new deal.

The likely decision not to re-sign is not about the money but his desire to further his career as he looks to become an England regular.

The fact he is ready to turn down Arsenal's lucrative offer underlines his stance.

There is a sense that Arsenal left it late to start serious negotiations, allowing Oxlade-Chamberlain to enter into the final year of his contract.

Like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are also in the final year of their contracts but Wenger has been adamant that the trio would not be sold under any circumstances, even if it meant they'd lose all three for nothing next year.

However, the club's stance on Oxlade-Chamberlain appears to be wavering.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain is sold, Arsenal's resolve to keep Sanchez and Ozil will strengthen significantly with the club likely to recoup a princely sum for their versatile midfielder.

Speaking on Thursday, Wenger called on Oxlade-Chamberlain to commit his future to the Gunners.

'All these conversations that I have [I say] that I want him to stay and be one of the big players of the future of this club,' said Wenger.'

'He is one of the players this team has to be built around in the future. Personally I want him to commit to the club and to be one of the carrier of the values of our team.

‘I want to keep my best players. I only have one target: to keep everybody onboard. I think we invested a lot of time, confidence and money on players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who we bought at a young age.

'For me, they have a responsibility for the future of this club because Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be one of the big English players in the coming years. I personally am highly determined to keep him here at the club and I hope he will commit.’
