John Stones and Kyle Walker may be earning a combined wage packet of £230,000 a week but the pair opted for a low key approach by turning up for training in a Mini worth around £5,000.

Stones, on £100,000 a week at Manchester City, drove his team-mate into training at the club's Etihad Campus facility in a classic black Mini.

Despite being able to afford any vehicle their heart desires, the defenders opted for a more subtle method of transport on Thursday rather than arrive in a flashy sports car.

Walker posted an Instagram video of the pair driving together as the defender appeared in good spirits despite his sending off against Everton.

He joked in the video that Stones was 'his driver' and referred to the car as a 'classic Mini... who says footballers aren't down to earth?'.

City defender Benjamin Mendy also posted a video on Instagram in which Stones and Walker can be seen driving behind him in his car at City's training complex.

Stones could afford to buy 20 Minis from one week's salary.

Right back Walker takes home £130,000 a week at City, almost double the £70,000 weekly packet he earned at Tottenham.

Both England internationals moved to the Etihad in big money deals - Walker's £54million transfer from Tottenham followed Stones's £47.5m move from Everton in the summer of 2016.

Walker was shown a red card for a second bookable offence in Monday night's 1-1 draw with Everton which saw Stones face off against his former club.

Both players were named in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia.

The pair are currently gearing up for City's upcoming match away at Bournemouth on Sunday, though Walker will be unable to take part due to his sending off.

Their manager Pep Guardiola will be relieved after his side were handed a relatively favourable group in Thursday's Champions League draw.

City avoided Europe's elite sides and were drawn into a group featuring Serie A outfit Napoli, Dutch champions Feyenoord and Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
