With that in mind, Arsenal would have preferred to sell to Chelsea — but the former Southampton player rejected a £35m move to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
And it is understood Arsenal are softening their stance regarding a potential deal with Liverpool.
Discussions between both clubs are now underway and the Merseysiders are hopeful a deal will be possible.
Liverpool, though, will have to splash at least £35m on Oxlade-Chamberlain.
