How bad will things have to get before there are major changes at Arsenal? @gobofunnell

If they went on a run of another five or six games without a win, alarm bells would start ringing at the club.

Wenger is not one to walk away but if things got that bad he may consider his own situation.

Wenger has committed to two more years at Arsenal. The characteristics of this team are poor. Having players who want to leave is difficult for those who want to be at the club.

Those who want to stay have got to stick together and be stronger than ever to get Arsenal out of this mess.

Is Arsene Wenger interested in defending? From Shirley in Watford

The most important thing for Wenger is for his teams to play football and be creative.

In 2006, I was asked to come and work at the club. I helped out Pat Rice when they did defending sessions.

There was one player who was making positional mistakes that were costing the team goals.

I wanted to flag up these mistakes to the player by showing him the footage but Wenger did not want him to see it.

In Wenger’s view, if a player sees himself making mistakes the problem becomes even bigger his mind.

That can be the case when you are discussing a technical aspect of a player’s game, such as passing.

But when the problem is positional and concerns a player’s body shape or angle of approach, it is worth going into detail and showing the player where he is going wrong.

I felt that by not addressing the situation, it would affect the player’s ability in the long term.

I don’t know whether things have changed now but Wenger is very protective of his players. He treats them like his sons.

But if players keep making the same mistakes, that will cost the team.

What formation should Arsenal play with the personnel left? From Mo in London

I like three at the back. It was helpful to Arsenal last season because it allowed them to have five defenders plus a sitting midfielder when they did not have the ball.

Wenger likes his full backs to attack and the danger in a back four is that Arsenal have just two defenders and a midfielder back when teams hit them on the counter-attack.

Regardless of what formation Arsenal play, the players must be aware of their defensive responsibilities. They need a midfielder who is prepared to get back in position and help the team cover up.

Francis Coquelin was brought on to shore up the midfield at Anfield... but is he the answer?

You said the title already looks gone, so what would represent a successful season for Arsenal now? From Kate in Dubai

It’s looking like a successful season would be a top-four finish — but achieving that is going to be a minor miracle if Alexis Sanchez goes.

You have to think that if Sanchez goes to City, he is strengthening one of your direct rivals for the top four.

Arsenal are not able to compete with City financially and eventually they may look at cashing in.

Arsene Wenger must face up to the fact he cannot compete with Manchester City's cash

What do Arsenal still need today? From Leah in North London

Arsenal need a world-class midfield player. They need someone who wants to get around the pitch.

From a defensive point of view, Arsenal do not have that player.

Granit Xhaka has been a huge disappointment in terms of the ground he covers.

Are Arsenal good enough to compete? From Jamie in Haringey

Even if Arsenal had lost the FA Cup final against Chelsea, I would still have said it was their best performance in a number of years.

I’ve said before that Arsenal were street-fighters. They competed for the ball and once they had it they were tigers in possession.

Where has that gone in the first three games of this season?

In the Cup final, Oxlade-Chamberlain took the game to Chelsea. Against Liverpool on Sunday he was a passenger.

All players can have an off-day but one thing you should be able to guarantee is work-rate.

When Arsenal were winning titles in the early 2000s, I remember the Watford youth team manager — who had taken a session near our training ground — came over to watch us train.

He said he had never seen a more competitive training session. Our sessions were white-hot. People wanted to win — they did not want to be embarrassed.

We were hungry for success not just on the pitch but in training.

The word ‘comfortable’ has been used about this current Arsenal side a great deal. To win things, you have to be on the edge.

You cannot simply turn it on and off like a tap.

These results will have hit Wenger hard. After we had a bad defeat, the training ground could feel like a morgue for 24 hours.

What Wenger needs now is to identify the characters who he can rely on to rebuild all this.

Arsenal's players were out-fought and out-classed by Liverpool in all areas of the pitch

Why has Oxlade-Chamberlain decided to leave? From Rob in Sussex

I’d be very interested to hear his own reasons for wanting to leave.

I don’t think he has really fulfilled his potential at Arsenal... and if he thinks central midfield is his best position then he has some work to do.

I do think he could be one of the midfield three at Liverpool, where he could play instead of Georginio Wijnaldum.

Do you think it was wise for Arsenal to keep holding on to Alexis Sanchez? Should they have sold him earlier and invest? From @HamaChinhoi

Arsene Wenger is a poker player. He has been sat around a poker table with three or four players trying to get them to sign.

The plan was for Sanchez, Ozil and Oxlade-Chamberlain to stay but Arsenal cannot force them to sign if they do not want to.

Arsenal’s exit strategy has been to sell these players for the best possible price at the 11th hour. But how much richer are Arsenal for doing this?

Having players who do not want to be there has affected the performance of the whole team at the start of the season. It could end up costing them as much as 10 points.

Last weekend’s performance at Anfield was so inept that it has definitely prompted the Oxlade-Chamberlain sale — and possibly a couple more today.

It looks like Sanchez's Arsenal career has ended with the 4-0 Anfield drubbing

Do you think the players are not happy with Wenger? From @evilisten

The players looked very lost at Liverpool. It was a combination of players not knowing their roles in the team and some throwing in the towel.

Arsene Wenger’s failure to be assertive last season over his own future has created this situation where players have been allowed to let their contracts run down.

Psychologically, players are not giving everything if they are looking for a move away. If you are angling for a move are you really going to put your body on the line?

Every time these players take to the field they are risking injury — and their moves collapsing as a result.
