Southampton are '99.9 per cent' certain of keeping hold of Virgil van Dijk with a 'ridiculous' offer needed for them to even consider letting him go.
The Dutch defender has made no secret of his desire to leave St Mary's this summer, informing the club of his desire to move on in July, but his club have maintained he is not for sale despite interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Liverpool's interest has been the most serious, with the Anfield club finding themselves in hot water earlier in the summer after being accused of tapping up the 26-year-old.
Virgil van Dijk's potential transfer away from Southampton is one of the sagas of the summer
But Southampton are confident they will keep the defender when the window closes
Van Dijk has trained away from his team-mates for much of the summer, with Liverpool once again leading the interested parties as the end of the transfer window approaches.
However, Southampton believe they will keep the player they signed from Celtic in 2015, with only an astronomical offer likely to force them to consider changing their stance.
If the defender does remain at St Mary's, captain Steven Davis has insisted he will be welcomed back into the team by his colleagues.
Liverpool have consistently shown an interest but Southampton are unlikely to sell
'The door has never been shut on Virgil,' Davis said.
'We will welcome him back. I'm sure if he came back into the team everybody would see the quality he's undoubtedly got.
'He is popular in the dressing room and has been a massive player for us. Hopefully we'll keep him as it will make our squad stronger.'
