Manchester City are furious with Arsenal after making a second bid for Alexis Sanchez worth £60m as Gunners fail to find replacement

  • Paris Saint-Germain's Julian Draxler is among those Arsene Wenger is keen on
  • The Arsenal boss are fully aware of Alexis Sanchez's desire to leave
  • City are confident of signing Sanchez - as long as Arsenal can find a replacement

Manchester City are furious at Arsenal over the way they've dealt with the Alexis Sanchez situation.

Discussions have taken place between the two clubs all summer and City are baffled that no replacement was lined up for the Chilean, who they accepted a bid of up to £60million for earlier.

Sanchez is sat waiting to sign a deal right now but that is looking increasingly unlikely as the day goes on. It'd take the player to really kick up a fuss now for this to get done. Or for Arsenal to somehow land another target other than Thomas Lemar.

City have offered £55m up front with £5m in add-ons for the Chilean having had an initial offer of £50m rejected.

Arsenal have reignited their interest in Monaco forward Thomas Lemar as they look to find a replacement for Sanchez, who is out of contract next summer.

City officials are out in Chile where the player is preparing for a World Cup qualifier with Paraguay and it is believed Arsenal will not sanction his sale unless they secure a deal for Lemar having been told that City would not accept a player-plus-cash deal.

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Julian Draxler is among those Arsene Wenger is keen on while a move for Leicester's Riyad Mahrez may also be considered.

The Arsenal boss and club officials are fully aware of Sanchez's desire to leave the Emirates this summer.

Sources at City are confident they will sign Sanchez - as long as Arsenal can find a replacement.

Sportsmail understands that the Chilean has wanted to move to the Etihad since the start of the summer and his feelings are long since known and reciprocated in Manchester.

There is some surprise that the move has not gone through already. The Gunners have been stalling in a bid to drive up the price and allow them time to find a replacement.

The issue now, is whether they can find that replacement before the end of the day. One well-placed source said: 'It's been a summer-long game of chess and it's now Arsenal's move.'

Arsenal are likely to be tempted by an offer of £70m. Gunners sources are adamant they will only consider selling Sanchez if they receive a huge offer and sign a replacement.

Wenger has publicly stated that Sanchez would '100 per cent' stay at the Emirates this season, despite the fact he can leave for nothing at the end of the campaign.

However, that stance has softened with the Gunners now willing to sell for the right price.

Sanchez's representatives have informed Arsenal he will not sign a new contract under any circumstances despite a £300,000-per-week offer on the table.

And he hopes the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer will be enough for Arsenal to sell.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling will remain at Manchester City after Pep Guardiola decided against using the England star in their attempts to sign Sanchez.

City had considered including Sterling as a makeweight in their move for Sanchez but manager Guardiola is reluctant to include him in the deal; the forward has already made a significant contribution this season scoring two goals in City's opening three Premier League games.

It means City will pursue a straight cash deal for Sanchez.

Sanchez is due to play for Chile on Thursday night, but is on stand-by to complete the move if Arsenal and City reach an agreement.
