Borussia Dortmund have completed a deal for Manchester City teenager Jadon Sancho and handed him the No 7 shirt vacated by Ousmane Dembele.

Sportsmail revealed Dortmund's interest in July and the Bundesliga club pressed to sign the talented 17-year-old ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

He has now completed his move and appears to be heading straight into the first-team after being handed the number Dembele wore before his £96m move to Barcelona.

Sporting director Michael Zorc told the club website: 'We are very pleased that Jadon Sancho, who is currently one of the greatest talents in European football, has joined BVB. 


'We are convinced that we can help this very young player continue to develop his game and complement our team in the medium term.'

Sancho failed to show up for training at the Etihad Campus in recent weeks after growing frustrated with his lack of progress under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Sancho has not trained for Manchester City for weeks amid on-going contract disputes 

Guardiola left Sancho out of City's pre-season tour of America amid on-going contract disputes which left the youngster looking for a route out of Manchester.

It seemed the winger was then destined to a move to White Hart Lane with Spurs keen on signing Sancho as part of a deal which saw Kyle Walker move to the Etihad.

Arsenal and Chelsea were also interested in acquiring the forward's services, with the former maintaining leverage due to City's interest in Alexis Sanchez.

Sancho wrote a tweet after the move: 'It's been an eventful two and a half years, with many special moments. It was a difficult decision but the time is right for a new challenge where I can start to fulfil my potential.

'I want to thank everyone at Manchester City FC, the coaches and staff that have contributed to my development, my team mates and of course the awesome Manchester City fans who have always supported me. I move with great memories.'
