Martin Keown's big match analysis: It's no secret where Marcus Rashford should be playing, while Joe Hart looks like a man shorn of confidence

England produced a determined comeback at Wembley to see off Slovakia and cement their place at the top of Group F.

Goals from Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford cancelled out the early strike from Stanislav Lobotka.

Here, Martin Keown takes a look at the major talking points from another win for Gareth Southgate's men.

GET RASHFORD ON THE LEFT WHERE HE PLAY FOR UNITED!

Marcus Rashford has started only one other qualifying tie for England and that was also on the right. Does Gareth Southgate thinks he knows something Jose Mourinho doesn’t?

It took 33 minutes for the young attacker to be moved to the left, where he has been performing well for Manchester United, the league leaders.

Before that, he made the mistake which gifted Slovakia the lead as he tried to dribble out of trouble, seemingly attempting to get the ball out of his feet. He’s right footed, as he showed with England’s second goal — and he prefers to come inside with the ball.

When he moved out on to the left he looked a menace and he looked a proper player. He showed character. England started sloppily and having their wingers on the wrong sides — Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was on the left — didn’t help. I’m yet to be certain of the new Liverpool man’s decision-making at the top level too. It was such a scruffy effort.

THAT'S ORDINARY, JOE

Joe Hart looks shorn of confidence. He should have come flying off his line for that early goal. Conceding ten goals for West Ham this season isn’t doing him any good.

England looked surprised by how Slovakia started and Hart was no exception. It looked to me as if he anticipated the lob but the shot went right through him, when he should have been huge like Peter Schmeichel.

He made a decent save in the second half when he did make himself big and strong. That’s what we expect from an England goalkeeper.

MISSING IN MIDFIELD

We are short in midfield. There is no world class playmaker who can hurt teams with his range of passing.

Jordan Henderson looks out of his depth, Eric Dier needs a better player alongside him.

Patrick Vieira used to tell me that midfielders never go back with the ball, but Henderson does that far too often.

SHOULD WE GO LONG?

This team seemed to get lost trying to play through midfield and into the crowded areas but there is no harm in going long from time to time.

I don’t mean going long all the time, but if we can hit Harry Kane, who can hold it up well, Dele Alli can get around him and we can utlise the pace that we have in wide areas. We can mix it up.

Going long to Harry Kane would allow England to utilise the pace of his team-mate Dele Alli
