Manchester City's Etihad Stadium was broken into by a group of brazen urban climbers, who evaded security to climb on to the roof of the arena before being led away by police.

Urban free climber Ally Law has grown a large following on YouTube after climbing landmarks such as Blackpool Tower and Thorpe Park's Stealth, but set his scope on the 55,000-seater Etihad Stadium.

Along with several friends, Law made light work of making it into Manchester City's ground before leading the group up to the roof. He dangled his legs off the edge in a stomach-churning stunt with the pitch hundreds of feet below.

However, their presence did not go unnoticed and a security guard called the police with one supposedly 'armed' officer confronting them on the roof and warning them a helicopter was on its way.

The group reluctantly gave themselves up and were escorted out of the ground with Law claiming the Premier League club are now taking legal action against him.

He also alleged a security guard threatened them with violence if they returned to the ground, apparently warning them he would 'smash their f****** faces in' if he ever saw them again.

Climbing Premier League football grounds has become something of a trend among the growing community of urban climbers with West Ham's London Stadium and Liverpool's Anfield both compromised in the past 12 months.

Arsenal's Emirates Stadium was also climbed in December while Manchester United were also forced to launch a full investigation after climbers broke into Old Trafford just weeks after the deadly bomb attack at Manchester Arena.

Their city rivals are expected to conduct a similar process while Law and his friends are facing a lifetime ban from the grounds around the stadium.

‘The group of men were tracked and monitored by security upon breaching the perimeter fence of the Etihad Stadium and subsequently apprehended when it was safe to do so,' said a City spokesman.

'Manchester City strongly condemns the actions of this group and is co-operating with the investigation into this matter.’
