Leicester City are facing an anxious wait as they attempt to push through the £22m signing of Adrien Silva, five days after terms were agreed.

FIFA has refused to accept Leicester's documentation in support of the midfielder's registration.

Leicester agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon on deadline day, but had to request a two-hour extension to complete the necessary paperwork.

Leicester's officials are working with Sporting to try to correct the registration papers, so that the transfer may yet be sanctioned by FIFA. 


Leicester lined up Silva after agreeing to sell Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea for £35m but could face the prospect of him not playing for them until January.

'We are working with Adrien and Sporting Clube de Portugal to overcome some issues relating to the player's registration and exploring all options to find a resolution,' said a Leicester spokesman. 

Manager Craig Shakespeare, meanwhile, is to hold talks with Riyad Mahrez when he returns to training on Thursday. 

Leicester were alarmed by his attempts to secure a move away on deadline day despite no bids being received.
