Despite the differing in age group, Gerrard, who made over 700 appearances for Liverpool in a career that spanned over 17 seasons, will already be coaching the majority of the U19 squad on a day-to-day basis.

In a club statement released today, Liverpool reported: 'Steven Gerrard will manage the Liverpool U19 (squad) when they embark on their UEFA Youth League campaign next week.'

The U19 fixtures mirror those of the first team and so the youth side will kick off at home to Sevilla on Wednesday before tackling matches against Maribor and Spartak Moscow before Christmas.
