Arsenal in danger of suffering new Premier League low... defeat by Bournemouth would signal their worst start to a season for 35 years!

  • Arsenal have endured a poor start to the 2017-18 Premier League season
  • Defeats at Stoke City and Liverpool leave Gunners with just three points
  • Defeat by Bournemouth would be the club's worst in the Premier League era
  • A shock Emirates Stadium loss would also be the club's worst in 35 years
  • Arsenal opened the 1982-83 season with just one point from first four games

Consecutive Premier League defeats, a manager under pressure, star players looking for a way out and a frustrated as well as divided fan base. It's hard to see how it can get worse for Arsenal.

The Gunners head into their fourth top flight match of the season at home against Bournemouth while running the risk of recording their worst opening to a top flight season in 35 years.

Despite opening up the Premier League campaign with a win over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger's men have since fallen to a narrow loss at Stoke City and a 4-0 hammering at Liverpool.

The Gunners' worst Premier League start came in 2011 and included the infamous 8-2 humiliation by Manchester United which left them with just four points from as many games.

Another defeat at home by the Cherries would leave Wenger's team with a Premier League record low of just three points from four matches.

But the north London side do have omens on their side. In the five meetings against Eddie Howe's outfit Arsenal have never lost and won four of the encounters.

Bournemouth are also in choppy waters, having lost all three of their Premier League games this term scoring just one goal - although the south coast side's previous match saw them go close to snatching a point from Manchester City before falling to a stoppage time defeat.

Should Bournemouth grab a shock victory at the Emirates it would be Arsenal's worst start since 1982 when they took just one point from their first four matches.

The Gunners went on to finish 10th and have endured mixed fortunes in their worst Premier League starts.

After taking four points from four games, Arsenal went on to recover and finish third in 2012, but following a similar poor opening to the 1994-95 campaign ended up limping home to their worst ever Premier League finish in 12th during a 42-game season.
