Paris Saint-Germain threatened with legal action by representatives of outcast Hatem Ben Arfa after winger is demoted to reserve team

  • Hatem Ben Arfa has been training with the Paris Saint-Germain reserve team
  • The former Newcastle United player could play his football in France's fourth tier
  • Representatives of the player have threatened the Ligue 1 club with legal action

Hatem Ben Arfa could take legal action against Paris Saint-Germain after he was demoted to the reserve team.

The former Newcastle United winger passed up the opportunity to leave the Ligue 1 club in the summer and has now been placed with the second-string squad, who play their football in the fourth tier of France.

His lawyer, Jean-Jacques Bertrand believes the move contravenes rules put in place by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), stating that his player is being denied access to the level of training they are contractually obliged to give him.

Bertrand wants to see his player re-instated into the first team by Friday or will take the matter futher.

'Legally, I think the club is violating the Professional Football Charter,' Bertrand told AFP.

'I informed the club by e-mail and advised that we do not accept the situation.

'Depending on the response, we will seek action from the league's disciplinary committee.'

PSG coach Unai Emery suggested the player may yet be recalled when speaking to the press at Kylian  Mbappe's unveiling this week.

However, Bertrand lambasted the Spanish coach for the comment, after Ben Arfa was made to stay and train with the second-string despite a depleted first team during international week.

'Half of the team are with their national teams and [other] players have been called up from the reserves to complete the group. Obviously it is not a problem of overstaffing,' Ben Arfa's representative said.
