Chelsea legend Frank Lampard returns to help out old friend Jody Morris at U18 training before taking part in epic 84-pass El Rondo with academy stars

It has only been seven months since Frank Lampard hung up his boots, so it will come as no surprise that the Chelsea legend is still in excellent shape.

The 39-year-old has now turned his hand to coaching, and was back at Cobham this week to help his old friend Jody Morris out with the Under 18s team.

Lampard put the youngsters through their paces in a number of training drills alongside his former team-mate, before taking part himself in an impressive game of El Rondo.

The coaches put two of the youth players in the middle of a circle, before undertaking a one-touch passing drill with the other youngsters, racking up an exceptional 84 passes before possession was lost.


Morris still has a few tricks up his sleeve too, as he bamboozled the 'piggy in the middle' with his skill to keep the ball away.

The former midfielder has been manager of Chelsea's Under 18s since last summer, but before that was working in the academy for four years. 

Lampard and Morris played together at Stamford Bridge for two years, before Morris moved on to Leeds, before spells at Millwall and St Johnstone among others.

Lampard, meanwhile, stayed in west London for a further 11 years, becoming a legend for both club and country.

Following the end of his Chelsea career, he moved to Manchester City before heading stateside to New York City FC, his final club before retirement.

Since hanging up his boots, Lampard has undertaken punditry duties with BT Sport, while also turning his hand to coaching.
