Crystal Palace become first team to lose opening four top-flight games without scoring a goal since 1924 following 1-0 defeat by Burnley
- Crystal Palace are both goalless and pointless following defeat by Burnley
- They are the first team ever to be in that position in the Premier League era
- Not since 1924 has a side not scored and lost their opening four matches
- Preston were that team and they were ultimately relegated that season
Crystal Palace remain goalless and pointless and have made an unwelcome piece of history following their 1-0 defeat at Burnley on Sunday, which left manager Frank de Boer clinging to his job following a nightmare start at Selhurst Park.
Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game after just three minutes, as he capitalised on an error by Lee Chung-yong to sweep his side into a lead they never relinquished.
The loss puts yet more pressure on embattled Dutchman De Boer, who has lost all four of his Premier League matches without his side finding the net, with only brief respite coming from the 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over a very young Ipswich Town side.

Palace are the only side to have failed to score and lost all four of their opening league games in the Premier League era and are indeed the first side to do so in the top flight since 1924/25.
Preston were the team to do so on that occasion, with the Lilywhites eventually succumbing to relegation in a season where they ultimately won only 10 times and scored only 37 goals.
They also lost their fifth game, but did manage a goal in a 3-1 loss at Cardiff, before securing a victory in their sixth match of the campaign.

De Boer, if he keeps his job, will need his Eagles to start firing soon if his team are to avoid a similar fate.
Bournemouth have also lost their first four matches of the season, following their 3-0 defeat by Arsenal on Saturday, and currently sit bottom on goal difference. West Ham can also join them if they lose to Huddersfield on Monday night.
The duo take the tally of sides to lose all four opening Premier League matches to 11. Of the nine clubs to have started with four defeats and completed the season, five were relegated and four ultimately survived.
