Manchester United legend Andy Cole works out at Carrington as he steps up recovery from kidney failure

Manchester United fans will be delighted to see their former striker Andy Cole stepping up his recovery following his battle with kidney failure.

Cole, who had to undergo a kidney transplant operation in April, took to Instagram on Monday night to post two videos of himself working out at United's Carrington training base.

In one of the videos, the 45-year-old can be seen lifting an Olympic Bar with weights on before lowering it, alongside the caption: 'The road to recovery is never easy... hard work... sweat and tears.'

And in the other short clip, the former England forward is filmed lifting dumbbells before moving into the squat position.

Cole, who won 15 England caps, also uploaded an inspirational and motivational message for all of his followers to see on Instagram, which read: 'To that one soul reading this, I know you're tired and fed up. 

'You're so close to breaking but there's strength within you even when you feel weak. Keep fighting.'

Cole had his transplant after suffering from a condition which causes scarring of the kidneys. He first fell ill in June 2015, after picking up an airborne virus.

However, he has for a while now been on the road to recovery and recently filled in as manager for United's legends match against Barcelona legends at the beginning of September at Old Trafford.

Cole is currently a club ambassador at United and won five Premier League titles with them.
