Graeme Souness has launched a bizarre attack on Paul Pogba following his brief appearance against Basle on Tuesday, calling the midfielder a 'bit of a YouTuber'.

Pogba played just 19 minutes in Manchester United's return to Champions League action before coming off with a suspected hamstring injury.

But the cameo was enough to prompt criticism from former Liverpool man Souness, who slammed Pogba for one particular passage of play while on punditry duty for Irish channel TV3.

Souness referred to Pogba 'a bit of a YouTuber' and said he wanted 'to see him do what Marouane Fellaini does' - the Belgian scored after coming on in place of the injured Frenchman.

Souness said: 'I want to see Paul Pogba do what [Marouane] Fellaini does: pop it off nice and simple,' he told TV3.

'I’m not saying he [Fellaini] is a better option, what I’m saying is he’s a bigger threat - he’s more effective.

'He’s not easy on the eye, he’s a bit of a thug at times, which doesn’t make him a bad guy.

'I want to see Pogba in midfield, get the ball, pop it off simple occasionally, or a clever pass, but the moment it goes wide… get into the box because I know that Paul Pogba has the legs to get into the box and then the legs to get back into his position in midfield, like he didn’t do tonight when he ended up on the right.

'That’s the question mark I have against him. He’s got technique. He’s a bit of a YouTuber, isn’t he?'

He also criticised Pogba for not having won much in his career, despite four Serie A titles, two Copa Italias, one EFL Cup and one Europa League to the 24-year-old's name.

Souness' remarks are the second time in the past week that Pogba has attracted criticism from pundits, following Garth Crook's strange comments on Monday.

'I also want to discuss Pogba's new hairstyle, which features a red streak' Crooks told BBC Sport in reaction to United's 2-2 draw with Stoke.

'I only mention it because he clearly wants to bring it to our attention. There is so much for the midfielder to do at United and he still insists on behaving like an adolescent.

'Granted, a hairstyle is not going to determine how well he can control a ball or make a pass, but it does say something about where his mind is at the moment.

'If you are going to attract attention to yourself on a football pitch do it with goals and performances, not cheap gimmicks and marketing tricks'.

Pogba captained United before the injury brought his night to a premature end, United ran out 3-0 winners against Basle thanks to goals from Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

Jose Mourinho confirmed Pogba had suffered what he described as a muscular injury and speculated that the midfielder would be sidelined for 'a few weeks'.
