Zlatan Ibrahimovic warned by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to avoid 'crazy things' to speed up his recovery from injury

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered a serious knee injury against Anderlecht in April
  • The 35-year-old has posted social media videos of his rehabilitation
  • He contributed 28 goals and nine assists in 46 games for Man United last term

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has warned Zlatan Ibrahimovic not to rush his comeback as he bids to make a return to action.

The veteran striker is on the road to recovery for the Red Devils after injuring his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee during their Europa League quarter-final second leg win over Anderlecht last season.

That injury in April curtailed a prolific debut campaign with United which had yielded 28 goals and nine assists in 46 appearances.

Since that setback - and his temporary contractual departure from Old Trafford - the Swede has been working hard in the gym posting several videos on Instagram of his rigorous workouts.

And while Mourinho is pleased to see the 35-year-old edging closer to full-fitness he is keen the star striker doesn't hasten his recovery with another setback.

'I think we need him,' Mourinho said. 'We wait for him, but with patience. He has to be patient.

'He doesn't have to be emotional and he doesn't have to try to make crazy things to improve [recover] quicker in his mind.

'Because I know that his desire is to improve quicker. So (be) calm – (take things) step by step.

'We want him, but we want him in his best condition.'
