Neymar shelves Ballon d'Or talk as PSG ace insists he's a team player but admits links with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe require improvement

Neymar became the face of Paris Saint-Germain when he completed a world-record £198million transfer from Barcelona this summer but he insists it's not all about him.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently suggested that Neymar's decision to leave Barca might have been motivated by his ambition to be lauded as the best player in the world - a feat which is hard to achieve from Lionel Messi's shadow.

But Neymar, who has scored five goals in his first five games for PSG, is adamant that he is focussed on achieving team success first and foremost.

Speaking after Tuesday's 5-0 win over Celtic in Champions League Group B, Neymar said: 'Of course a football player wants to win the Ballon d'Or. But I don't have to think about it. I have to think about what's better for our group, our club.

'This is a great team and, if we keep going like this, we have a big chance of doing it (winning the tournament).

'I'm very happy to start with a win. Of course, it's not only about getting goals, but that's the most important. That's what we came for. I'm very happy with this game.'

Neymar is not the only new face to arrive at the Parc des Princes this summer, with PSG adding four first-team players during the recent transfer window.

Teenager Kylian Mbappe was a fellow marquee signing and he, Neymar and Edinson Cavani have quickly become one of the most feared attacking trios on the planet.

But Neymar believes there is much more to come from PSG's frontmen and that they will improve significantly once they have got to know each other better.

'They are two great players,' Neymar said of his striking team-mates. 'We are getting to know each other.

'Cavani is an extraordinary striker, Kylian is a guy who likes going ahead, going for the ball. We'll get to know each other more and more.

'It's easy when you play with intelligent players.

'We still don't have a full understanding between us: through a look, a movement, we're still missing a little understanding, but we'll get better step by step.'
