Tottenham 0-0 Swansea Premier League RESULT: Harry Kane and Co held at Wembley again
- Tottenham host Swansea in the late Saturday Premier League kick-off
- Spurs have taken seven points from their opening four matches
- Swansea have four points from as many Premier League games
Tottenham face Swansea at Wembley in Saturday's late Premier League kick-off.
Harry Kane reached 100 Premier League goals for Spurs last weekend with an effort against Everton at Goodison Park, before continuing his form in midweek by netting in the 3-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Paul Clement's Swansea team are next up for Spurs. Follow all the action LIVE with JAMES DUTTON.
And with that, I'm off.
Be sure to join us tomorrow for what promises to be an exciting double-header. Chelsea host Arsenal before Everton face Manchester United.
See you then.
After the excitement of Borussia Dortmund, the brutal comedown of Swansea City. Tottenham can look swashbuckling against Europeans elite; not so much against Wales’ finest team.
And it was a compliment to Paul Clement that the first half was so uneventful. He brought them survival last season with exceptional organisation and he isn’t about to tear up those foundations now. With Federico Frenandez cajoling and Alfie Mawson and Mike Van Der Hoorn responding, with superb positional play, Tottenham exited at half time gnawing their knuckles in frustration.
Swansea don’t look the best team on paper; under Clement though they can be exceptionally hard to break down. Admittedly they have lost 4-0 to Manchester United this season; but on that occasion they were still in the game until they tired in the final ten minutes.
Tottenham up to fifth after earning that point, Swansea in 14th. A missed opportunity for Spurs, they may feel aggrieved not to have been awarded at least two penalties but Swansea battled very well indeed.
The Wembley curse back with a vengeance?
Routledge then barges into Dele Alli instead of trying to win a header. Dangerous position here, Eriksen to curl it in. Headed away and cleared.
Time wasting from the Swansea winger.
Llorente wins a knock-down, Aurier runs onto the loose ball but he stabs his effort into the side netting.
Trippier drills an effort from 25 yards that rips past the post. That had Fabianski beaten.
Yellow card here for Serge Aurier, an alleged handball in the area (struck his chest) before going to ground after being tripped by Jordan Ayew.
Toby Alderweireld also joins the book for dissent.
Swansea have used their third and final sub.
Tom Carroll is the second Swansea player to go into the book.
81 mins: Harry Kane twists and turns outside the area and is so close. Low effort just trickles wide of the near post.
80 mins: This has been quite a frantic second-half at Wembley after a very pedestrian opening 45 minutes.
Tottenham would be worth a lead, but Swansea are very much worth a point so far. Approaching the final 10 minutes and this could go any of three ways still.
Swansea have a free-kick by Tottenham's corner flag.
76 mins: Appeals for hand ball against Olsson inside the area, his arms are up high but it's not given by Dean.
75 mins: There we go - Llorente goes up top with Kane against his former employers.
72 mins: A second change for the Swans here. Wilfried Bony, Swansea's No 2, enters the fray.
69 mins: Free header for Dele Alli and he gets it completely wrong. Central area, six yards out or so, hanging in the air but he directs the ball back across goal instead of towards the net.
66 mins: Fabianski does brilliantly to tip Harry Kane's stooping header over the bar. Excellent reflexes.
Serge Aurier enters the fray, and Moussa Sissoko gets the early hook. We've had just over an hour.
First booking of the day for the Swansea centre-back after a late challenge outside the area.
Renato Sanches' quiet introduction to English football continues. He's shown some glimpses of his talent this evening but no more.
58 mins: Pressure really building now and Harry Kane whacks an effort from six yards out against the cross bar, and the ball bounces clear.
56 mins: Shouts for hand ball inside the Swansea penalty area across Wembley but Mike Dean waves play on. The ball knocked on by Alli, bounces into the side of Ayew's arm, but not deliberate.
Son has a shot easily saved.
55 mins: Spurs fans ramping up the noise in the stands and the players trying to respond in turn. It's been a bit quicker in this second-half so far, trying to drag Swansea out of position and catch them cold.
But it remains scoreless.
50 mins: Toby Alderweireld is bowled over as he races into the penalty area on the right-hand side but referee Mike Dean is unmoved.
48 mins: Tottenham upping the ante almost straight from the off in this second-half. Son pushing more forward to play alongside Harry Kane.
The camera pans to Fernando Llorente on the bench. Gives Spurs an added dimension should they need him.
Skiddy, low shot from Eriksen is well held by Fabianski.
Tottenham dominant, Swansea determined. Doesn't make for a great spectacle.
Not much has happened, I'm afraid.
45 mins: Long-range effort from Vertonghen, central area, but his shot is too close to Fabianski despite being well struck.
One minute added time to come.
44 mins: Van der Hoorn heads over from a Swansea corner. Rose well, centre of the six-yard box, virtually a free header but he knocks it well over.
38 mins: Tottenham fans growing more and more agitated as they watch their men try and navigate their way through two banks of red shirts. Swansea well organised and nullifying the home side so far.
32 mins: Swansea growing into this more and more. Tottenham just struggling to get any rhythm up at the moment.
But they've won a free-kick on the left-hand side, 10 yards from the corner of the penalty area. Christian Eriksen stands over it... headed away well.
25 mins: Swansea break very well, lovely move - probably the best of the match - Davinson Sanchez brushed aside by Tammy Abraham but Moussa Sissoko nips in ahead of Tom Carroll as he looked set to shoot on goal.
23 mins: Free-kick for Spurs on the edge of the box, left-hand side. Dier wastes it. Curls it over the bar.
18 mins: Nice move from Spurs on the edge of the box. Intricate stuff, three one-twos, Son turns after receiving from Alli but balloons his shot way over the bar.
15 mins: Tottenham on top here but they've not created much, that Son shot minutes earlier aside. Swansea are well organised and have come here to frustrate the hosts as they search a first league win at Wembley.
11 mins: Marauding run on the left from Son after being played in by Sissoko. He shoots at the near post, and Fabianksi gets a strong hand onto it and palms it behind for a corner.
9 mins: Quiet start here. Free-kick from a fair distance that Harry Kane is lining up. It's well hit, curled around the wall, and Fabianski gets down low to palm it behind for a corner.
4 mins: First shot on goal, a volley wide of the near post from Dele Alli. Didn't quite catch it, ambitious effort.
Kick-off is imminent here at Wembley...
Less than 15 minutes away from kick-off at Wembley as Spurs target a win that would lift them into the top-half of the table.
SIMON JONES: Swansea City are rivalling Celtic and Rangers for talented St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan.
The 20-year-old has scored six goals already following on from an impressive campaign last season when he scored ten goals and earned a call-up to the Scotland U21 squad.
St Mirren turned down a £200,000 offer from Nigel Clough's Burton Albion in the summer even though Morgan has less than 12 months left on contract.
RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: Mauricio Pochettino has revealed how a deflected Harry Kane free-kick three years ago might have saved him from the sack.
The Tottenham manager was attempting to pick his favourite of Kane’s 103 goals for the club on Friday when he divulged how close he felt he was to losing his job before his 10th game in charge.
That was against Aston Villa on November 2, 2014, when Spurs were 11th in the table and 1-0 down with six minutes to play. Nacer Chadli pulled Tottenham level before Kane scored in stoppage time, with his free-kick hitting Nathan Baker and wrong-footing Brad Guzan.
Starting XI: Fabianski, Naughton, van der Hoorn, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson, Clucas, Sanches, Carroll, Ayew, Abraham
Subs: Nordfeldt, Rangel, Roque Mesa, Fer, Routledge, Narsingh, Bony
Starting XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Dier, Sissoko, Eriksen, Son, Dele, Kane
