Jamie Carragher has once again aired his contempt for former team-mate El Hadji Diouf in public after targeting him in a lighthearted troll on Steven Gerrard's Instagram account.

The Liverpool legend took the opportunity to have a dig at the former Senegal international after seeing Gerrard post a video of his four-month-old son Lio kicking a football.

Writing in the comments section, Carragher said: 'Better than Diouf already. Coaching looks like it's coming on!'

While only meant in jest, Diouf is unlikely to see the funny side after making his feelings towards both Carragher and Gerrard clear since his time at Anfield came to an end 13 years ago.

In 2012, Diouf accused Gerrard of being 'jealous' of his ability and the reason behind his failed spell at Liverpool while in 2015 he made the outrageous claim that the England captain 'never liked black people'.

In his autobiography 'My Story', Gerrard spoke at length about his disdain for Diouf, who spent just two seasons with Liverpool between 2002-2004 before being shipped out on loan to Bolton.

'I don't really want to waste time thinking about El-Hadji Diouf but it's worth highlighting his wasted seasons at Liverpool as an example of how it can all go wrong,' Gerrard wrote.

'It seemed to me that Diouf had no real interest in football and that he cared nothing about Liverpool.'

After Gerrard's retirement in 2016, Diouf once again claimed that Carragher and Gerrard were responsible for his acrimonious exit from Anfield and claimed the midfielder was 'nothing' compared to him.

He told French television: 'When I arrived I showed him he was nothing at all. He was nothing at all.

'I asked him to tell me in which big competition, Euros or World Cup, people think about him.'

Carragher has previously named Diouf as the 'worst' footballer he shared a pitch with, saying: 'The worst has to be El Hadji Diouf.

'Actually, I quite enjoyed playing against him as you could kick him then – can’t kick your own players'.
