Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain mocked on social media as Twitter users criticise Liverpool new boy for underwhelming full debut during defeat by Leicester

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's full Liverpool debut didn't go to plan on Tuesday night as Jurgen Klopp's men were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Leicester.

The £35million summer signing from Arsenal had been made to wait for his first start, having made three substitute appearances since moving to Merseyside.

But after a frustrating 90 minutes, social media users were quick to pounce on Oxalde-Chamberlain's underwhelming display at the King Power Stadium.

A number of Twitter accounts, including @NOT_MOTD, pointed out that not only have Liverpool not won a game since signing The Ox on deadline day, but Arsenal have gone unbeaten since cashing in on the England international.

That statistic might be a little harsh given the 24-year-old's lack of playing time so far, but other users chose to highlight some of the less impressive moments of his performance against the Foxes.

In response to a tweet by Arsenal fansite @DailyCannon which read 'Not one of his finest' says Sky of an awful Ox corner. It's like they've never, ever watched him. Ever', user @frolicols posted a clip of the poor set-piece with the simple caption 'Enjoy'.

User @BKingsmill also mocked a specific swing of the right boot from Oxlade-Chamberlain as the former Southampton starlet attempted to switch the play.

Sarcastically captioned 'Pin point precision', the clip shows the Liverpool midfielder horribly scuffing a pass to Andrew Robertson out for a throw-in in the 83rd minute.

And the punishment didn't end there for The Ox, with Twitter users posting a series of memes ridiculing both his performance and hefty price-tag.

With plenty of talk about Oxlade-Chamberlain's position in Klopp's side, bookmakers Paddy Power joked about him ending up at Sunderland or Stoke instead of in central midfield for the Reds.

Liverpool fans and those of other clubs also seemed unimpressed with the versatile midfielder's full debut, poking fun at the Merseyside club's summer transfer business and Oxlade-Chamberlain's disappointing display.

Twitter user @swaynkaayyy wrote: 'Liverpool really rejected €120m for Coutinho and then spent €40m on Oxlade Chamberlain. Bad business all round there.'

While @otunbasegebam tweeted: 'The way Liverpool are racking in bad results, it's a matter of time b4 Liverpool loan Oxlade Chamberlain back to Arsenal. What a signing.'

'Oxlade chamberlain is possibly the worst footballer I've seen to date,' was @robbrango's take on the £35m man's full debut.

User @DasIstFussballx questioned the way Klopp spent his summer budget, writing: 'Is anyone able to explain why we spent close to £40m on Oxlade-Chamberlain, sold our best centre back, and replaced him with no one?'

And @MainManFirmino opted to compare Liverpool's latest signing with some of the less successful names to have worn the red shirt: 'Oxlade Chamberlain would have fitted in well with our banter era of Joe Cole, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, and Paul Konchesky.'
