Manchester United and Chelsea look good on the road, Andy Carroll worth a punt against Tottenham and Liverpool at Leicester again - Premier League odds and tips

  • Tottenham are at West Ham in the first game of the Premier League weekend
  • Spurs have lost three of the last four when travelling to their London rivals
  • West Ham striker Andy Carroll is just under 3/1 to score at any time
  • Manchester United and Chelsea are worth backing away from home
  • Manchester City are 33/1 to win 6-0 for the second week in a row

It's derby day again in the capital as West Ham and Tottenham kick off the latest round of top-flight action.

Spurs were strongly fancied to claim their first Wembley win in the Premier League last weekend but were left as frustrated as the punters who piled into them at short odds when Swansea held on for a goalless draw.

They’re away from the national stadium on Saturday but Mauricio Pochettino and his players don’t have far to travel - to another ground they haven’t won at. Fair enough, they’ve only played at the London Stadium once, but their recent record on the road at West Ham isn’t the best, with three losses in their last four.

The London rivals get things going with the first game of the weekend at lunchtime and Spurs are no better than 13/20 (Bet Victor) while the Hammers are 5/1 with a few bookies and the draw 13/4.

The hosts are sitting 17th in the table with four points from their five games but they’ve won both times they’ve played in front of their own fans, the most recent a confidence-booster against Championship basement-boys Bolton in midweek.

We can’t read too much into the Carabao Cup, after all 17 Premier League teams playing in midweek made 137 changes between them from their top-flight matches a few days before, but you can only beat what’s in front of you and the Hammers’ reward for tanking the Trotters is a Wembley date with Tottenham next month.

Pochettino played down the significance of the domestic cups before watching his side claim a narrow win over Barnsley with Dele Alli scoring the only goal and the England man is 5/1 (Bet365) to open the scoring here. Harry Kane is 3/1 to break the deadlock and that’s almost the same price for Andy Carroll, fit again and with two games under his belt, to score at any time. He was 3/1 earlier in the week but is now a shade under with several bookies. Elsewhere, you can get 2/1 for over 3.5 total goals in the game and 23/10 for Spurs to win with both teams scoring.

The north Londoners weren’t the only ones ruining coupons last weekend as by the time Spurs kicked off against the Swans, Liverpool had already dropped two points at home to Burnley despite having 35 shots and a rookie keeper in the visitors’ goal.

They’re at Leicester for the second time this week after crashing out of the League Cup at the King Power on Tuesday.

Two much-changed sides were on show but it was a fourth straight game without a win for the Reds, who have had their cutting edge blunted by the loss of Sadio Mane, who's still banned this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head for the midlands as favourites, Betfred’s 20/21 is the best price around, while Leicester can be backed at 16/5 with Bet Victor. The draw is tempting and any score draw is 19/5.

Jamie Vardy, on target at Huddersfield last week, has five in three games against Liverpool

Jamie Vardy, on target at Huddersfield last week, has five in three games against Liverpool

Jamie Vardy has five goals in his last three league games against Liverpool and is 19/10 (Bwin) to score at any time and 11/2 (several firms) for the opener.

In between the two live games, there's a rare treat for the traditionalists with the top three all playing at 3pm on a Saturday.

Manchester United, City and Chelsea lead the way in the standings and are well clear of the rest in the betting for who will be crowned champions next May.

City, at home to Crystal Palace, are unbackable at 1/9 (they’re 5/6 to win without conceding and 7/4 to win with both teams scoring) against a side still looking for their first points and goals of the campaign, although they did beat Huddersfield in the cup on Tuesday night.

There won’t be many backing the Eagles either, at 22/1, and they’ll be up against it at the Etihad as City have put six past Watford, five past Liverpool and four past Feyenoord all without reply.

Betfair have the best odds on correct scores, going 10/1 for 4-0, 14/1 for another 5-0 and 33/1 for a repeat of the 6-0 hammering dished out at Vicarage Road last Saturday. If you fancy them to go even higher, 7-0 is 80/1.

Man United (4/5) and Chelsea (13/20) are on the road, at Southampton and Stoke respectively, and both are worth backing.

Stoke have beaten Arsenal and drawn with United at the bet365 stadium but they are struggling with injuries in defence and don’t like Chelsea, losing to them more times (13) than they have any other Premier League opponent. There’s also the Blues’ seven wins from their last eight away games to consider and Mark Hughes’ stinker of a record against his old club – 15 defeats in 23 games and 43 goals conceded.

Antonio Conte’s side are odds on but you can get 8/5 they’re winning at half-time and full-time, Alvaro Morata in the score-win double is 13/8 and Eden Hazard is 9/4 in the same market.

United are 4/5 at St Mary’s and should make it five wins from six while Burnley (against Huddersfield) and Everton (against Bournemouth) just get the nod as they’re at home.

Swansea against Watford has the look of a draw, as does Newcastle at Brighton on Sunday. Jamaal Lascelles has helped Newcastle climb to fourth with the winner in his last two games and you can still get the defender at 11/1 (bet365) to score at any time.

Arsenal’s against West Brom at the Emirates brings the curtain down on Monday night.

Demolition derbies?

It’s not just derby day in London. Rangers host Celtic, Sheffield rivals United and Wednesday clash in the Championship and Wimbledon face MK Dons (Friday night). Betway are offering odds on the dirtiest derby - with 10 points for a booking and 25 for a red card - and the Glasgow giants head the betting at 13/8. West Ham v Spurs is 7/4, the Steel City clash is 3/1 and you can get 11/2 that Wimbledon v MK Dons has the most bad boys.
