Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere capped a good week by coming up with the perfect response to social media bantering from his pal and former Emirates team-mate and housemate, Wojciech Szczesny.

The 25-year-old from Hitchin rounded-off an excellent few days after he earned rave reviews for a high-quality performance against Doncaster Rovers during the Gunners 1-0 win over the League One side in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Wilshere then posted a picture of himself in his teens during #ThrowbackThursday on Twitter and Instagram, writing '#tbt to the digs days with the mad man Wojciech Szczesny - can't believe he let me have have my hair like this'.

But it was his social media post that also got people talking as he joked with Wojciech Szczesny

Szczesny, Wilshere's former Polish flat-mate - the pair shared digs together in North London as youngsters bidding to break into the Arsenal first team - soon responded by jokingly asking: 'Was that when you were still good at football?'

The Juventus goalkeeper was making reference to the terrible run of injuries Wilshere has endured that robbed him of a considerable amount of game-time that has seen his promising career stall.

The dig also sparked memories of Wilshere being hailed by the-then Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola after he outshone footballing royalty such as Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez in a Champions League game at the Emirates.

The match in February 2011 - that Arsenal won 2-1 against a star-studded Barca team including Lionel Messi - took place only 11 days before the Carling Cup Final.

The Gunners were huge favourites to beat underdogs Birmingham City at Wembley but surprisingly lost 2-1 after a mix-up between Szczesny and centre-half Laurent Koscileny that allowed the Blues Obafemi Martins to nip in with an 89th minute winner.

And it was to that match that the cheeky Wilshere returned when replying to his old friend.

Wilshere, who is now hoping for an injury-free season, shot back to Szczesny: 'No, it was when you threw the Carling Cup away from us.'

Touche, as they say.

Arsenal play West Brom at the Emirates in the Premier League on Monday evening before making the long trip to Belarus to play BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday.

They then return to host newly-promoted Brighton in North London on Sunday, October 1.

Wilshere will be hoping to play a big part in those three matches - but any social media trolls would be wise not to criticise his undoubted talent - just ask his old pal Szczesny.
