Arsene Wenger will look for positives, as he always does, and there were some here at the Emirates - another victory in the Premier League and two more goals for new striker Alexandre Lacazette.

It is a month now since Arsenal were embarrassed by Liverpool and Wenger’s team have inched back on to an even keel. This, however, was a game that hung in the balance for quite a while.

Referee Bobby Madley erred spectacularly in only the eighth minute with the game scoreless. How he missed the foul by Shkodran Mustafi on Jay Rodriguez in the penalty area, only he will know. It should have been a spot kick and West Brom should have been in the lead.

Arsenal lead but the Baggies should've scored at least once tonight. It's fair to say that Arsene Wenger will be the happier of the two managers at the break.

GOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 West Brom - Alexandre Lacazette (20 mins)

We have the breakthrough in north London tonight and it's the hosts who have the lead.

Winning a free-kick on the edge of the area, Sanchez steps up and clips an effort on to the bar. The ball falls kindly to Alexandre Lacazette who headed home into an empty net.

West Brom hit the post - Jay Rodriguez

8 mins: West Brom should have been awarded a penalty but instead remain level with Arsenal.

Jay Rodriguez does brilliantly to get in behind Shkodran Mustafi before cutting inside. The German scithes him down in the penalty area but referee Bobby Madley inexplicably plays on. Rodriguez gets to his feet and shoots but Petr Cech does excellently to tip it on the post before Jake Livermore misses with the rebound.

In reality though Madley should've blown his whistle for a penalty. Pulis will be fuming.

The Arsenal defender made clear contact with the Baggies forward inside the penalty box
20:07
Arsenal chance - Alexis Sanchez

4 mins: Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette link-up well as the former wins a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. The former steps up and takes the set piece... but his shot goes just wide of the far post.

Arsenal reunion for West Brom defender Kieran Gibbs too

Kieran Gibbs spent 13 years in north London before moving to West Bromwich Albion this summer and Arsene Wenger is backing him to succeed with the Baggies.

'I personally wish him very well, I have a big respect for Kieran Gibbs,' Wenger told Arsenal Player. 'He is a very intelligent player, he has the quality to play for England 100 per cent.

'But he’s a player with huge potential and we all have big respect for him here. But he wanted regular football and with Sead Kolasinac coming in as well, the competition for places was a bit too strong.

'He is a guy who has class, and you cannot create that. I think he will be like that his whole life.'

Barry on surpassing Ryan Giggs' record

'It's obviously a nice moment for myself and I'm very proud to reach this number but like anything I'll try and put that to the back of the mind and concentrate on winning the game of football. Then after the match hopefully a positive result and something I can look back on and be proud of.

'I don't think I'll be thinking about it at all. Once we're out there it's about going out and playing the game, doing your job as normal and then thinking about it after the game.

'A couple of my brothers are Spurs fans so they'll have a bit extra incentive to come and hopefully see us get a result today so they'll be there cheering me on.

'The kids have had the day off school to come and support me tonight so it'll be a nice moment for them to be there too.'

Landmark moment for Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry is in the West Brom starting line-up for his record-breaking appearance at Arsenal.

The 36-year-old midfielder has been named Baggies captain in honour of his 633rd Premier League appearance, surpassing the mark set by former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs.

Barry, who drew level with Giggs when he played in West Brom's goalless draw against West Ham last weekend, will also make his 601st start in the top flight.

Barry made his debut for Aston Villa at the age of 17, appearing as a substitute in a 3-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday on May 2, 1998.

His landmark appearance comes against the Gunners, who twice tried to sign him during his long career.

Instead Barry went on to play for Manchester City - with whom he won the title in 2012 - and Everton before joining West Brom on a free transfer this summer.

Now in his 21st season as a professional, Barry, who also has 53 England caps, this week admitted he could carry on playing until he is 40.

He also has his sights set on Giggs' top-flight record of 672 appearances - the Welshman played 40 times in the old First Division before the Premier League was introduced.
