The Senegal international made 35 appearances in all competitions in his debut campaign, with his performances alerting a number of Premier League rivals as well as a number of overseas clubs.

But the Toffees are determined to fend off any interest in the player by offering him a new long-term deal, with improved terms bringing him in line with the club's top earners.

Everton are determined to keep hold of their best players as they look to make a sustained bid to crack the Premier League's top four and qualify for the Champions League over the next few years.

Securing Senegalese star on a new deal will come as a welcome boost to Koeman after a challenging run of form to open the new season.
