It was also Drogba who would step up to take the match-winning penalty in the shootout, keeping his cool to beat Manuel Neuer and claim Chelsea's first ever Champions League title.

Drogba began the story by remembering the scene that hit himself and his team-mates upon stepping out of the tunnel - a mass wall of red shirts.

Playing in their home stadium, Bayern fans largely outnumbered the opposition, putting Chelsea on the back foot from the off.

The German side took the lead in the match and looked to be well on their way to lifting the trophy, only for Drogba to play a monumental part in proceedings.

The iconic striker talked through his goal in detail, including anecdotes of how he angled his run to the near post while saying a silent prayer that Frank Lampard didn't get a touch on the ball.

Juan Mata's corner came in and Drogba made perfect connection with the ball, bursting the back of the net before knee sliding emphatically before the delirious Chelsea supporters.

In what was also his final game for the club Drogba became the hero... but he so easily could have left the pitch as a villain.

It was Drogba, during normal time, who gave away a penalty and offered Bayern the chance to sew up the contest.

Former Blue Arjen Robben stepped up, only to have his effort saved by goalkeeper Petr Cech - something Drogba admits he will be eternally thankful for.

'After I scored I went crazy and I was going to run to the guys, but then within a second I just turned and came back to this guy (points at Cech)' explained Drogba.

'Without this guy, if he doesn't save Robben's kick, we don't go to the penalty. We lose and instead of being the hero, I am the bad guy for creating this penalty.

'Every time I think about the Champions League, every time I see the trophy, every time I think of Chelsea winning it, it's for this man here Petr Cech.

'I put the golden gloves (on him) because for me he's number one,' Drogba added.
