Maddox collected the ball in his own half before smashing home on the edge of the area
Both teams flew out of the traps and there were three goals in the opening quarter of an hour.
It was Chelsea who slotted the opener after Brown swept home Sterling's knockdown to put the visitors in control.
Sterling was again involved moments later, this time as the scorer. Callum Hudson-Odoi embarked on an elusive run through the heart of Atletico's defence before a loose ball fell for Sterling who tucked it away into the bottom corner.
Charlie Brown was also on the scoresheet as Chelsea made it two wins from two
Hudson-Odoi was at fault however for the Blues conceding a penalty, the 16-year-old brought down Carlos Munoz who converted the spot kick.
The moment of the match was delivered by Maddox. He collected the ball in his own territory before surging forward with defenders dispersing his his wake.
Maddox approached the edge of the Spanish side's area before hammering a powerful drive into the roof of the net.
It was a moment of magic which will live long in Maddox's memory and he will hope to repeat the trick when Chelsea U19s take on Roma at Cobham in their next outing.
