Liverpool new boy Andy Robertson admits the defence needs to improve and backs the whole team to pitch in

Liverpool's defensive problems haven't been lost on anyone this season, least of all the players in the back line themselves.

New boy Andy Robertson has found his chances in Jurgen Klopp's side limited so far this year, but acknowledges the team have an issue at the back and need to work quickly to turn things around.

In the six Premier League games played so far the Reds have shipped 11 goals, while scoring 12, and Robertson admits things have to change if the club are to be successful this season.

'I do believe as a group we can get better defensively and I can be part of that,' Robertson told the club's official website.

The Scotland international believes an onus shouldn't simply be on the defenders in the squad, but the whole body of players as a whole. 

'As a group we have to work together to get better defensively because, if the midfielders can help us and the strikers can help us, then as a team we'll improve,' said Robertson.

'The threat we've got going forward, the counter-attacks are frightening at times.

'So, if we can just shore up at the back and not concede silly goals and not switch off then we'll be a big force,' he added.

Robertson is yet to feature for Liverpool since the league cup exit to Leicester City some weeks ago. 

The 23-year-old Glaswegian has been used sparingly by Klopp so far, despite being widely expected to become first choice left back following his move to Anfield.

The position was problematic for the Reds last season, with orthodox midfielder James Milner filling it at the back for the duration of the campaign.

The opening weeks of the season have seen something of a revival for Spanish full-back Alberto Moreno, who has once again come into the starting XI and earned plaudits for his attacking initiative during Liverpool's recent Champions League stalemate with Spartak Moscow.
