Bastian Schweinsteiger has been making the most of the sporting scene in Chicago during his injury lay-off as the former Manchester United midfielder joined his wife Ana Ivanovic at an NFL game.

The happy couple wore Chicago Bears shirts sporting the footballer's No 31 squad number pitch side ahead of the match with the Minnesota Vikings.

Schweinsteiger is still battling to get back fit after suffering a calf injury in Chicago Fire's 1-0 victory in Montreal on September 2, but if reports in Germany are to be believed, better news is on its way.

While we are yet to receive official confirmation, weekly magazine Bunte claim the couple are expecting their first baby with Ivanovic four months pregnant.

The pair having been busy doing the sports rounds since Schweinsteiger joined the Fire in late March and they ticked another team off the list on Monday.

Schweinsteiger took in the Bears versus Vikings game and was on the sideline at Soldier Field with his wife prior the match, which ended in a 20-17 victory for the visitors.

Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic have previously attended games involving the city's Bulls and Blackhawks teams as well as the Cubs, where the 2010 World Cup winner threw out the first pitch and sang the seventh-inning stretch with team-mates.

Chicago have reached the MLS play-offs having finished bottom during the 2016 season, with the 4-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes prior to the international break booking their spot.

Schweinsteiger will hope to play some part in the two remaining fixtures of the regular campaign against Philadelphia and Houston Dynamo but the 33-year-old is focused on being ready for the post-season action.

'I can't say exactly where I am, but not 100 per cent, because for that I need more training sessions and that's why it's good to have two weeks,' the former Bayern Munich midfielder told the club's official website.

'Where I can really go for it and train very intense, and to get ready for the last two matches and also the play-offs. We are very excited, I think the last time we played in them was 2012.
