Prosecutors are expected to announce whether there will be any charges in a few weeks' time.

The Swedish Allsvenskan fixture was called off at short notice after goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos alerted authorities he had been approached by a former AIK team-mate two days before the match and offered a large sum of money - reported to be around £180,000 - to underperform.

Canada international Stamatopoulos was the reserve goalkeeper but was called up following an injury to the first choice.

Hakan Sjostrand, the secretary general of the Swedish Football Association, told The Times: 'It was a mixture of money and concrete threats, special circumstances that convinced me we cannot play this match.

'We needed to protect this goalkeeper - what would happen if he made a mistake. This was important for the game and the reputation of football.

'It is not football that creates this match-fixing problem, it is betting.'
