  • However the Arsenal legend wants Salah to be more clinical in front of goal

Mohamed Salah can be a special player for Liverpool if he improves his killer instinct in front of goal, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has said.

The Egyptian moved to Merseyside for a then club record £39million from Roma this summer and has impressed on his return to the Premier League.

Salah, who has netted six times in 11 outings this season, moved to Roma permanently in 2015 after then Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho deemed him surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

And Henry believes the winger has nothing to prove to his former boss, but must up his chance conversion rate if he is to prove to the Anfield faithful he capable of reaching the standards set by Philippe Coutinho.

'I don't think it's about proving Mourinho anything, but proving the Liverpool fans that you are this guy — that you can be a player like Coutinho,' Henry said on Sky Sports.

'For me, he is special, he has something special. He will be a special player for Liverpool. I like the fact that he is direct — we don't have a lot of players like that in the game anymore.

'And yes, people will say sometimes that he needs four opportunities to score a goal. When he is able to finish all the opportunities he has then he will be more than lethal for this club.'

The Reds face Manchester United on Saturday and the man leading the line for the visitors at Anfield has also hit the ground running for his new club.

Romelu Lukaku has fired United level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table and Henry believes the move has signalled a change in the striker's mindset.

'You had to give him time, he never came here (Anfield) and played for a team like United, he came and played for Everton, and I'm not having a go at Everton but it's not the same thing.

'I've never seen a guy so committed — he knows everything about everything. He will know he doesn't have a great record against the big teams.

'But, for the first time, he can match those big teams with the team that he has.'

'Now is time to kill,' he added. No more messing around, when you play for a club like United, it's time to kill.'
