Kevin De Bruyne has been the creative spark at the heart of a Manchester City side setting the pace in this season's Premier League.

The Belgium midfielder has already scored once and assisted five goals to help Pep Guardiola's side win all but one of their opening eight league fixtures.

De Bruyne set up two goals in City's 7-2 rout of Stoke on Saturday and the 26-year-old's impressive displays have seen him become the odds-on favourite to be voted the PFA player of the year.

And the residents of Stockport may be among those hoping his form does not take a turn for the worse after former City star Paul Lake promised to do a 'naked conga' around the town's Kwik Save if the Belgium doesn't win the prestigious award.

The former player's wife Joanne, a writer and City supporter, posted on Twitter: 'If Kevin De Bryune doesn't win the PFA Player of the Year, Paul and I will do a naked conga around Kwik Save Stockport car park.'

N'Golo Kante was given the award last season after helping Chelsea win the Premier League title.

Should De Bruyne follow in his footsteps, he would become the first City player to win the award – despite the club winning the title in two of the previous six seasons.

Lake, a cult hero at City, had his own career cruelly cut short by a serious knee injury and later faced battles with depression.
