Former Manchester City No 1 Shay Given claims he was 'ready to throw a party' when he left the club in 2011 because of his relationship with Roberto Mancini.

The 41-year-old claims that the Italian 'fell out with everyone' at the club, from the players to the coaching staff and even the canteen workers.

The extraordinary revelations come in the former Republic of Ireland stopper's autobiography, serialised in The Daily Mirror.

Given was first-choice when Mancini replaced Mark Hughes in December 2009, but by the start of the next season he found himself behind Joe Hart in the pecking order.

The former Stoke and Newcastle goalkeeper writes: 'For the love of me, I couldn’t work Roberto Mancini out.

'We heard that when he was sacked by Inter Milan in 2008, the entire squad had a massive night out to celebrate.

'By the time I left Manchester City in July 2011, I was ready to throw a party myself.'

Though Mancini delivered City's first league title in 44 years in 2012, he was a divisive figure and held a fractious relationship with Mario Balotelli in particular.

Given continues: 'Whether you rate a player or not, if he’s on your books then surely you want the best for him, you want the best from him and you want your entire club to move forward.

'He fell out with everyone. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone.

'The players, the back-up staff, the physios, the kitman, the press officers, the canteen workers, the car park lads, the lot.'
