Tottenham should have been given a spot kick for Casemiro's challenge on Fernando Llorente, says Glenn Hoddle: 'He's hooked him, it's a penalty'

  • Fernando Llorente was felled in the box by Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro
  • Referee Szymon Marciniak waved away protests with the game still goalless
  • Real Madrid were awarded a spot kick when Serge Aurier fouled Toni Kroos
  • Record Champions League scorer Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty

Casemiro's challenge on Fernando Llorente in the Real Madrid area should have been a penalty to Tottenham, according to Glenn Hoddle.

Llorente was brought to ground in the box when Casemiro kicked out towards the Tottenham striker with the game still goalless.

The Madrid midfielder appeared to get some of the ball but followed through and felled Llorente, sparking protests from the away side.

And Hoddle, speaking on BT Sport's coverage of the Champions League clash, believes referee Szymon Marcinak should have awarded Tottenham a penalty for Casemiro's challe.

'I'm outraged,' Hoddle jokingly replied when asked by presenter Gary Lineker if the incident was a spot kick. 'It's a penalty'.

'[Casemiro's] gone over the top there and dragged the back leg,' co-pundit Frank Lampard added. 'Both of them together for me makes it a penalty. He stops him being able to get to his feet'.

'Yeah, [Llorente] might have swivelled there,' Hoddle said. 'He's only six yards from goal and Casemiro has hooked him'.

Tottenham took the lead just seven minutes later when Harry Kane's flick took a major deflection off Raphael Varane and looped into Keylor Navas' goal.

Madrid were then awarded a penalty of their own when Serge Aurier fouled Toni Kroos following an intricate passing move from Zinedine Zidane's side - Cristiano Ronaldo converted for the equaliser.
